Here's Valrick trying to figure out what guilds are active and which ones like which: I've always had a hard time figuring out which Guild to join, or what dudes to dude with. I have always wondered if this is the same scenario for people coming back or starting fresh. There used to be a few guilds for each type of UO facet: PVM/Champs/PVE/PVP/PK/IDOC etc Am i blind? Are there not many big groups guilds doing stuff together anymore? Are we all loners in Sosaria seeking love and happiness from coast to coast? Feel free to discuss. Edjamacate meh!
Project Sanctuary is PvM focused (but will recall in to defend/avenge our members who get attacked/PK’d) and is like the server incubator for new players. Also runs a fair amount of events together (we did a spider dungeon last night and are doing a zookeeper scroll on Thursday). There used to be even more events from what I’ve been told, but the guild’s founder is on hiatus due to health issues. Also has a pretty large player city outside Skara Brae (across the ferry). Very very friendly group and will give you the shirt off their back. *Edit* I should mention that PS goes out of its way to be neutral and avoids forum drama, politics, etc. Individual members may have their own grudges (like I’ve had a lot of ridiculous grief encounters with Anarchy, so I have zero respect for them). But while wearing the PS tag you’re expected to be an upstanding citizen and avoid dragging the guild into nonsense.
I’ll get banned, I’m sure, for saying this... however, the way events are structured here, they cater to the solo player. Not much here is meant for group participation except IDOCing.
Speaking only for myself, probably more than half my gameplay is solo, I do things with other people as much as possible depending on time and who is on. My preferred play style is with large groups but that is usually about once a week, with much smaller groups or just another player and myself other times. I assume others do the same but just don’t advertise it in order to avoid attracting undesirables.
Tbh there needs to be more of that. The reds have been real Sync-Zergy lately, like it takes 8-10 people to grief a solo PvM build farmer. No names but you already know. lol
You are playing Ultima Online. Here the easiest way to mix it up in PvP is on reds. Granted, lots are giving factions a try but for the most part running reds is a sure way to get a group fight going. Bystanders will be shot.
Trolling dungeons with a full group a of people looking for solos to sync on isn’t pvp and I can’t be convinced otherwise. Lol It’s a legitimate play style for sure but don’t give it more prestige than it deserves. It’s griefing. They serve their purpose though I suppose. The element of danger makes the game more exciting and a refreshing escape from the safety playpens other MMOs are.
Usually when you go out and kill ppl as a group your hoping another group comes and contests you. Or hope to kill an alt of an opposing guild & hopefully stir things up. It’s not griefing Griefing would be killing you in the dungeons & then dry looting you & not res you & not gating you out. & then waiting for you at your house by using the house rune acquired from dry looting you, so that when you do finally do make your way home from your walk or help stuck journey you die again & potentially get house looted & then camping your house till you log off. That would be more along the lines of “griefing”...
Griefing is a certain guild revealing and killing my Hythloth hounds setup (where none of the chars or bots had anything of value on them to loot) even after I tell them that the bots belong to Pothead who wasn't there to put them back up. There was nothing to be gained by doing that, no skill involved, no glory to be had... the whole purpose was to inconvenience me and waste my time. Makes them difficult for me to respect. And when my pvper is finished and I've knocked the rust off a 15 year hiatus, I'll have my pound of flesh. lol
