I'm asking because I have been in refresh mode for a very long time. I saw some changes had been made but how noticeable are they?
Try it out? You tell me. Chief Osceola was hitting like a brick house with his bow in the last CTF round. He'd be a good one to chime in.
So, I'm with @David Scraggs in that I read all that but I can't say I have ever seen anyone say "hey guys, archery is fixed" or "hey guys, this still sucks". Pretty sure that's what he's looking for, not "RTFM"
You're both correct. I have been in refresh mode for 5-6 months. I typically hit the trading post the same day I refresh my house. I was honestly considering just selling it and banking everything of value. I just don't care to play much anymore because archery is so screwed here. Macing takes stamina axes get the LJ bonus Spears get the paralyzing blow Stun Mages get the stun You Can disarm with armslore. At least Ive read that never really witnessed it. Tamers get their own little quest to protect to their 500k dragons/mares/wyrm I could go on and on and on and you guys know this too. What does archers get? Ranged attack and its freaking awesome! The problem is with potions and healing actually vs the swing speed of a bow with 120 dex actually landing enough shots with enough damage to kill someone is like getting hit by lightening twice on in the same spot. Archers are fine for CTF because you have team mates to land the final blow or get their health down and land a nice 35 damage shot and time it with a explosion potion. Archers already have to buy or build arrows/bolts. Not complaining because its worth it for the ranged attack. Ive said it here literally for YEARS! SWING SPEED IS THE PROBLEM!!!!! There are simple fixes for this. Simply increase the swing speed of all archery weapons by 25% or so. Give archers a quest where we could win quivers to increase it? Add the compound bow and the repeating cross bow. As it sits right now with a bow you can fire about once every 3.5 seconds. The about 2 interruptions on your opponent trying to heal meanwhile a person with a spear paralyzes you and can swing again nearly instantly. All Im saying is it was very unbalanced in a few areas. Im not saying buff others but make archery more competitive. I wont even go in to the HUGE advantage tamers have and yes I have one. Thoughts? Ill probably log in tonight and play a bit.
Iirc correctly I saw a damage improvement over all. Would be result of accuracy buff. I admit Ive not reread notes, but shot timer aas given more leway in regards to movement cancelling it? again.. iirc to me with some Aussie ping it seemed moving shots were a thing. Those 'moving shots' did have the standard recently moved reduction in accuracy, but it wasn't a (seemingly) 95% miss chance like prior. Regardless of how much of an improvement, there has definitely an improvment to archery peformance. I think still I did better on OSI Ren as my mained archer, but.. fond memories and all... I said in a thread somewhere after the patch I'd test further on and report back.. I never did haha. But yeah, archery is better. Is it doing as much dam as all melee? No. There'd be no melee characters otherwise! Well played and positioned Archers shouldnt really take damage. (Great bonus, but it is survivability versus dam per tick) Definitely jump on and go hunt something that fully utilizes the no mana, ranged dam benefit of archery. The biggest buff however, will be when we get runic bow crafting Finally; slight buffs are best in games. Especially here on UOR with a tenacious community chomping at the bit, combined with limited dev hours. An buff too powerfulll will tip the balance dramatically and may not be quickly foxable, draw ire, etc. Which is far better than some games with their flavour of the month buff/nerf cycles... (just more treadmill mechanics disguised! )
@David Scraggs 3.5 seconds? maybe I shouldnt get in to details without running tests(like I shouldve already), but I am almost certain its faster than that. 25% increase seems too drastic, but yeah... I need real numbers. Then need to consider time it takes for a melee to reach you or get out of range, which affects the comparitive damage... and is the archer moving and affecting accuracy? Also an example of a bad (and rare) scenario is where an archer with a higher attack speed gets lucky, with hits and damage and drops their opponent too quickly. This and more = many things to consider. 100% agree Archery could do with more History Perfected Attention
Bloody Dragon Lords. Also, swing speed, I mentioned the timer oroginally was being reset on movement.... it was the devil. Its noticeably better in that now.
Jimmy, I'm happy with damage. My problem is with swing speed and the availability of decent archery weapons
The arrow stack is nice. But I haven't noticed a difference with the accuracy boost. The runic bow is ok, nothing great. I haven't tried the xbow runic as I only use regular bows. But still alot of misses, alot of sitting and kiting waiting for a hit. Boring combat. But training is easier with stacked arrows every few tiles in large stacks now. This is why I told you to keep doing what you're doing - refresh mode. Nothing has changed here that is noticeable. (I have 6 archers so I get it)
I didn’t know runics were available to be crafted. I built my bowyer up in anticipation of it but lost interest in waiting. We should go watch arrows miss their target together
Haha for sure! We can count how long it takes to kill a basic skeleton together! Should be boring as hell! The runics aren't crafted they just drop once a year from cupid event. It's a runic bow and xbow - again nothing special at all. But at least it's something
Ahhh ok. I’ve always heard those called agapite bows. I actually have the bow. Didn’t know there was an ag xbow
I believe its agapite hue with verite runic modifiers. Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong. But yea, they don't sell cheap enough for people wanting to take them out on the field. One thing I would love to see if I'm out farming would be stealth archers. I would laugh and would be happy to be a victim of a team like that.
*nods* damage (per tick) and swing speed being directly tied of course. Per tick is what matters of course as its the real measure of output. Which you likely know, but that was my point. Yeah the Valentines dropped runic bows aren't what I was referring to, they would definitely improve archers. I believe the upgrade containing the runic fletching is still something on the cards though. Hmm, I wonder if attack speed has ever been considered as a feature of the conceptual runic bows... Careful what you wish for! Bloody Nighthawks aren't a problem here like back in Krondor... although I think I saw one of their Temples pop up on Vesper Road... *wanders off muttering about cockroaches*
