Temp Bans for personal attacks

in forums and irc, I think we should go for it. Regardless of vulgarity, etc

What types of attacks would be acceptable under this new rule?

I dunno, I think we (most of us) can tighten it up a little, so we don't run off nice folks and new players.

Those are just from two pages on a single thread today.

Would any of those count as a ban worthy personal attack?

Despite what Jack may have said in the past and how he has acted, I think his intention is a good one. The level of hostility from some players towards others is shameful. We don't all need to hold hands and sing songs together, but the quickness with which most disagreements in IRC and forum chat devolve into name-calling and hate-mongering is alarming - and it's usually made worse by one side egging the other on.

I'm all for being able to speak your mind but have a little respect everyone else. Trash talk should be done in private PMs or the appropriate forums. If asking people to monitor themselves without the fear punishment is not enough, then the next step should be a slap on the wrist (i.e. a temp ban or a similar punishment)

I don't disagree. I was just pointing out Jack is notorious for immediate personal attacks against people who he has a disagreement with. If this actually gets implemented, I expect he would be one of the first ones to suffer a temp ban and or a permanent ban because he can't control his temper.

I only speak that way when spoken to for the most part, or when I'm being silly, but I was rereading this stuff today and thought woah, this is out of hand. And what's really concerning is if it's coming from people not just doing it to be purposefully ignorant like I tend to do.



Anyhow, I've had enough of it as it is. I've already stopped using irc and I'll just stop using the forums next, I enjoy the game without interacting with most of you in these things I've noticed.

That's an outright lie. Feel free to review your IRC logs. Many times in history, you have not had a successful time changing my mind or others' and immediately devolve into rage posts about how bad I am and I'm just a troll and yadda yadda yadda. The real fact of the matter is that I argue well, people fall flat in debate and have no other way to go than trash talk or agreement because I'm so god damn right all the time. Ok, so I exaggerate a lot there but I am right quite frequently and this angers people who are frequently wrong or do not have many who agree with them. If people would stop getting upset about debate and devolving to trash talk, it would happen less. Personally, I love some long winded shit talking so it's very easy for me to just keep going when the conversation devolves. I'm more than happy to change topics or raise the bar, if the bar indeed will be raised. If it continues to be dropped on the floor, by all means, oil up and lets wrestle.

The point is, things need to be cleaned up, don't focus on me or anyone who's said anything in the past and thus continue the cycle of attacks. Typically I'd just say something snarky back to you after you put me or any of my ideas down, without caring which leads to these things. But it's old hat, tacky, and I'm bored with it. It's not that you argue well, you put people down in your replies which detracts from your points and the points of the people you are trashing.

Okay Jack - I don't know about temp bans - but I agree people should talk a lot less trash. There was a time where the IRC staff was more quick to kick people and/or direct them to the proper channels. But people were constantly saying the chat was overmoderated so they actually now seem to let people go for a bit before asking them to stop and then kick/banning after even longer if it continues.

I think it would be just fine if trash talk was moved to UORPVP or UOR right away. I always cringe when Westra logs in right as everyone is saying NO YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS GAY

Is it irony, or is this guy the single biggest hypocrite in the history of UO? And then when he gets called out and his arguments are rebutted beyond his ability to rationally make another point, he resorts to one of two options: trash talking you in a completely irrelevant manner, or claiming he was just joking all along and only trying to mess with you.

If anyone should be banned it's this dumbshit.

I would agree with Jack on the level of etiquette here, having a solid respectful community helps to build a positive experience for all and would help the shard grow.

While I understand not everyone will get along and it's easy to get into shouting matches, perhaps we just need to self-police or have additional forum admins to try and keep threads on topic and if things begin to digress, they get moved to a more appropriate thread.

This way, folks can let out their frustrations as needed and we can keep topics on topic.

Clyde, your hemorrhoids are getting the best of you, if you'll notice all the attacks in our biplays have been coming from you first, and I just degenerate to your level cause it makes me laugh and I can toss ignorant nonsensical insults at you all day. And there's no proving points to people like you who have the blaise mentality of "I'm always right" and then communicate your self inflated ego with name calling and sarcasm.
