Okay I'm lost, I went through the guides. One of them was just too complex for me to know how to modify the macro presented. The other is missing vital pictures that I think would help me a lot... http://uorforum.com/threads/guide-to-gm-stealing.2139/ I've followed the instructions on that, but it just doesn't work. A lot of times it just skips selecting the bottles to steal or doesn't put the bottles back in. I've gotten it to work a few times, but then something always goes wrong and it never works on every successful steal.
All I did was steal bottles from a bag on the floor of my house.record yourself doing that with a stack of 100 bottles in there and when you steal them drag it and drop it on the pack.Stop recording, change the drag item to drag item type, put a 10 second delay in and run to GM.If that still works......
As much as I respect Loudkrud, you have to steal the bag and not the stack of bottles. Set a stack of bottles in a backpack ( appropriate numbers are listed in guides ) and simply target the bag with stealing. Don't forget the bag is weighting something too. You can pick the empty bag and check how heavy it is in your status bar. Hope it help!
It wouldn't let me steal the bag, or does it have to be a backpack? It just says you cannot do that or something like that. I saw those suggestions and tried that. I also did what LudKrud suggested, that's what the guide says to do, and I get all kinds of different errors and responses, sometimes it even tells me I can't steal from other players or I am too far away to steal that, it's really weird.
You definitely need to steal the entire bag. Put the bag inside another bag, and make sure you are targeting the bag as an Absolute Target and not by type.
Sorry about the guide you linked being screwed up. When Chris switched to the new forums, for some reason the formatting of the guides I had written did not translate correctly to the new forum. I have not had the time to go back and correct all of the guides yet.
omg it works! Now frustratingly a lot of my bottles are in locked chests that I put their own keys into because I apparently don't remember how to unlock things. How do I do that? I have a lot of lockpicks so I can run to the bank grab some and pick the locks on the chests, but I need to be able to relock them anyway. Thanks so much for the help!
I GMed stealing on 2 characters this way,if something has changed in the rules its possible it doesnt work now,but hey......2 GM thieves speaks pretty well for my method..... edit:Ulrike PM me in irc and Ill pick the locks for you.
It works that way still, Lud, but its slower because the random steal doesn't always target the best possible range for gains for you. Thats why the bag method is recommended -- add another bottle every time you gain another 10 points -- keep the bag about 2 stones ahead of your current skill divided by 10. If your skill is 70, you want a 9 stone total weight bag (6 bottles in a round bag should fit that -- might be 7 bottles... not sure if round bags are 2 or 3 stone.).
Oh, no, I'm not talking hours. I've done it twice with the method you did, and twice with the bags. The bottle method -- 3-4 days. The bag? About a day.
Im pretty sure it only took me around a day both time also.......ah well, doesnt really matter at this point as long as hes gaining......
