Please help. My computer (Windows 8) has had a virus for apx. 2 weeks now. It only seems to effect my web browsing, including the forums and IRC. It redirects my web pages, imbeds sites with advertisement banners, and causes pop-ups. I did not have virus protection at the time of infection (dumb of me, I know.) Since then I renewed my Norton Anti-Virus Protection but it doesn't seem to have the ability to remove the virus. I've searched for virus removal software but it has become quite difficult because of the virus. Also, I'm at a point where I don't really trust what I'm looking at. I got the virus by clicking a fake "download now" button. If anyone could recommend to me a trusted virus removal software I would greatly appreciate it. It would be even better if you could post a link to the software companies' official websites so I know I can trust them. THANK YOU.
Norton is completely capable of removing viruses -- this sounds like you have malware, which is typically viewed as a different classification from viruses. What you want is something like this: https://www.malwarebytes.org/ This, in conjunction with antivirus, should help clean it up. If MalwareBytes doesn't clean it, PM me on the forums and I'll see if I can help you more directly. In most cases, however, MalwareBytes will clean it.
