I agree - it seems a continuation of an inevitable slide to Trammel type settings - extending guard zones in Occlo, more instances, permanent event center, etc. If that is what the player base wants, I get it, and I don't besmirch @Chris for creating a world that players want to inhabit. But it doesn't feel true to the ethos of the server of a pure sand box risk/reward.
The guard zones were only moved about 10 tiles years ago, to provide more safety for our new players at the ocllo bank. A problem we created by using Ocllo as the new player town. People could sit right next to the bank (2 tiles) and kill people at the bank who were not young. That clearly needed to be addressed. We have the same instances as always, we are just revamping and improving them now that we have access to Quick's launcher and in world decorating work. So no change there, just an improved experience. And over the years we have slowly removed access to the event center as I mentioned previously. Gates open less and less, no skill gain in there, no murder count decay, platinum rewards monitoring, etc. We still need the event center to perform its purpose (8 years and going) but we do work to address player concerns.
Snow carpet at 100 HC a pop is going to be about 5x the cost of regular carpet, intentional? Not sure it will see that much uptake at that price.
We tried this long ago, and it did not go well. The thieves that show up will completely negate the desire of the events as players will be forced to constantly be on guard while waiting for events to start, or between rounds of a 1v1 tournament. And a player who starts a match and notices his weapon missing, will generally never bother with CTF/Tournaments again as they are forced to sit in the event with no weapon or no reagents to enjoy the event. Our old arena was in a guard zone outside of Delucia. After 1 month of events the only players showing up were thieves. We were forced to disable the events and build the event center you see today before re-enabling them.
Fair enough. I get it. I just don't love the idea that there is another slice of Trammel freely available to anyone at anytime through the Moongate. I didn't have an issue with the event center when the gates came/went - it is the persistent state availability that I think represents a slow slide.
This is already live, we just need a method for players to get to the event lobby when they forget a pet. So going forward it will be on the moongate, but town gates will only be active during events. (Working for CTF's, still need to fix it for Tourneys)
It would kill their pet, so a tad harsh. And also remember we have to use that area to link to player run events. Otherwise we have to place gates to those events in a variety of towns. A huge staff time saver was always being able to just enable the event lobby and place a single gate to any player run event. Ensuring maximum accessibility. Yes, but we are still configuring the patch contact so things will be rolled out slowly.
In the Brigand guild we used to skirmish with people this way. It was fun, it created activity and people would come running from the bank to help the blues. We might have gotten guard whacked a few times accidentally but it was sad times when that was changed. There was a median area between the bank and moongate where these skirmishes could take place. Once an angry mob of blues came out of the bank area and chased us all the way around the island and into the brigand fort
At the time we had a terrible problem with townkilling due to a bug with how NPC's saw and treated continued aggression. By the time we addressed the issue we felt it was to late to adjust the guard zone back as players were used to it by that point. So with current mechanics it would not be an issue but it took us a while to resolve that issue.
hi @Chris not sure if this is hard limit or just a primarily decision but the friend list is limited to 5 players. would be it acceptable for more?
@Chris in the pics for the updates for the 2021 Xmas reward store it looks like the lotto is dropping to 25hc a spin from 100, is this accurate?
