48h for everything. You shouldn’t be bidding on something if you don’t have the gold currently to cover it. (Or the guild funds)
I was thinking about players that don't get time to play every day, but there has to be a limit. But as always it is up to the vendor if they wish to stipulate a payment time window can place that on the sale thread
48h should be more than enough like Mutilate said. If you are bidding on something you should be keeping eye on its timers and ready to complete the transaction as soon as possible. If you dont play everyday is fine, but at least communicate with the auctioneer saying you wont be available for X amount of days.
I don’t play very often these days so I always tell the seller if I need time prior to bidding… Which reminds me, I need to reach out to two of you.
48hr is pretty reasonable for some communication to schedule the trade etc but I'm still not sure that should give you the right to cancel a buyer outright. 95% of people here are reasonable though. Definitely a longer period to complete the trade. This whole thing is a two way street though, neither party should he able to just go dark for a period of time to back out from their obligation or effectively cancel a winning bid from a party they don't want to sell to. It's fairly common to see trade deadlines established in the auction post though if the seller is under a particular time crunch for whatever reason. Allowing a week or more to complete a trade as the default timer wouldn't take away anyone's ability to specify a quicker time frame if they need it so I'd advocate for a longer default window.
Also, this does not seem like something the mods should get involved with nor will it be enforceable.
Those terms are usually used only for auctions for multi million sales, like 20+ etc or if the person is quitting wont or wont be able to log for a long time after the trade is finished. not common on day to day trades
That essentially proves my point though, that the implied default for day to day trades is inherently longer than 24-48 hours because if you know you only have a short time window you generally would (and should) specify it in the post.
If you bid you should have de money for it. If you don't have time, you can use the internet to message the seller.
I dont think we need a rule... more a code or guideline... cause really how can we enforce it? Unless otherwise arranged with/by the seller, all transactions should be completed within XX-hours of auction closing. Failure to do so gives negates the obligation of the seller to complete the transaction. They are free to relist, charge late fees or keep item(s). The purchaser should feel bad and expect bad Karma, but are not obligated to complete deal once late fees are added. They should pay them or not, but move on and not complain
I side with no staff involvement. If Buyer/Seller doesn't have the gold or item(s) as arranged, then there is just no trade. If a timer ends on a winning bid and the Buyer/Seller doesn't respond for days or weeks... also no trade. That case is a bit annoying when the seller goes missing. But if its bidders who go missing, the seller should be 100% allowed to sell to the next highest bidder who is still around. Might be best for sellers to just add: All goods must be traded within 4 days of bidding expiration. If not, second highest bidder gets it.
Not a bad thing to specify on a given auction, setting a hard time would help hold both parties accountable for delivery and receipt. Not everyone plays all the time though so suppose it's up to the seller to be strict about it or not, and if the buyer doesn't settle up within the timeframe specified (and subsequently loses out on the auction) they can't cry about it after the fact. Well they can and probably will but tough peanuts. Relegating to the next highest bid also costs the seller money so yea, would leave it up to the seller to specify and adhere to.
I always use the language of negotiation when buying or selling. Everything will be done by mutual agreement. The most important thing is that both parties are in touch. The main nature of my delays or not, were different time zones. But I will always find a couple of minutes to answer or just contact after the auction. Everything was always cool in this regard, and if we could not find time for a meeting, then we threw the goods at the vendor and everything was fine. Much depends on decency, but this is not a problem in our community. What I really agree with 100% is that if you don't have gold to trade, then you shouldn't go into the auction. More a question of morality than rules and regulations. Cheeers
I've held items for afew weeks b/c time zone difference , don't be butt hurt if people have a life or different time of play than you. Post a pick-up time if u really need funds on time for another trade/buy
What's to prevent people from making blocker bids if there is a hard rule in place? Bidder A: 100k Bidder B: 2 million Bidder C prevented from bidding because item is worth 100-200k, and doesn't want to over pay. Bidder B never responds allowing Bidder A to get the item cheap. Bidder C could put in their normal bid, but who's to say Bidder B isn't actually willing to pay 2m? etc etc Initial response would be, "community should be able to handle the fake bids" but we've already seen fake bids screwing up auctions before. I had an action screwed by a disgruntled ex member posting on another account and it ended up costing me because of it. So if we're going to go with the "community should be able to handle it" we should just let the auctioneer decide what they want to do with their item. There are already people who sell items with the caveat of "Except members of X guild" or "Except X Member" (albeit i haven't seen this in awhile) allowing to bid on their items.
It was infern0 and anightmare about a dragon trade. https://uorforum.com/threads/sold-red-dragon-822-825-105-461.54820/ Anightmare won a bid but hadn't responded to being the winner yet and infern0/sammyb defaulted to the next lowest bidder, plentimon, at the 22 hour mark. I have good trade relations with infern0 and have messed up myself when selling but imo infern0 was in the wrong there. He stated that if they(anightmare) had gone on a vacation and had at least informed them it would be a few days, then it wouldn't have been an issue; but 22 hours is not a vacation. anightmare got a little heated and said something along the lines of "this is bs" or something inflammatory about infern0 and it got removed, granted he might have been a bit out of line but he's not completely wrong. I'd be pissed too and don't do business with players that conduct trades that way or at least if they don't try and make up for it in some way, though infern0 might not think he did anything wrong.
