I was farming some gold last night and had the pleasure of meeting your bard Rhianna. Sure enough your actions got you killed! Contrary to your claim however, I did NOT find it discouraging. I had fun TBH, and if I choose to farm at somewhere as popular as arctic ogres, then I should be willing to fight for the spawn or put my tail between my legs and find somewhere else to go. Pirul said it best in an old thread about this very topic.

Lord Krake and Descartes like this.

Wow...that quote from Pirul is very well said. I like it.

I will quit if I am unable to loot other people's kills. I will take as many with me as I can too.

I have new player question. I am playing here from UOSA. Do I need to download the new client?

So far everything seems to be working well, but I'm just curious. Do I need the UOR client?

If I update the client, how can I transfer my macros?

Hello Li, you can go to your start menu and use Search to find %appdata%.
In that directory, you'll find a Razor folder that has all of your macros and profiles in their own respective sub-folders.

You can play without the Ren client, however, you will not see the two custom homes (Large Keep and Fortress) or be able to use stacking potions, among other things.

It is in your best interests to download the client from the website. You can even install it to a different directory than what you're running now and select that directory in the Razor startup window.

That being said, this is probably not the best thread to ask these questions in.

I believe there are also some substantial map differences between UOSA and UOR, specifically places like Despise Level 4.

If you're talking about UO macros/hotkeys, you would want to back up your Desktop folder in your UO directory, then paste it back into your fresh UOR install of Ultima Online.

Well, yeah, considering there is no fourth level in Despise. The map differences are practically nil. We have some dungeons that I don't recall going to on SA (like Khaldun) but maybe they just weren't populated? I dunno.
Otherwise, same maps, just different spawn in various locations.

I think Dalavar was referring to the Island. On voldershard there's only 1 bridge whereas there are 4 here.

    1) Upstairs level
    2) Entrance level
    3) Downstairs level
    4) Ogre Lord Island level

The map differences are enough to get you killed in a few different places, which is incredibly frustrating when you can't understand why you got stuck.

We both agree that everyone should get the UOR client. Why argue about petty shit when there's a new player asking for advice?

Oh yeah, I forgot that little entrance area is considered a level.

Yeah, I don't really care what Stratics says, the entrance is not a level and I'll never refer to the bottom as level four. ;)

I'm not trying to argue about "petty shit" but you seem to think there's some myriad differences whereas you've cited 0.
Can you at least share some of these deadly differences so perhaps others may learn?

Bridges on Despise 4 is maybe the biggest one. Players and monsters can pursue you, looking like they're walking on air or water. Hythloth has some z-axis changes where you can fall into the floor. There's a few custom bridges (around Trinsic for example) that I don't think are on UOSA. I don't have the slightest idea what Ocllo would look like to someone with a non-UOR client, maybe not a major difference but I have no way to test.

All of those things were added well after the client was last updated as far as I know. Except for the Hythloth thing that I'm not even sure where you're finding it, but it's probably a bug in default RunUO map and just needs some invisible blockage like the stairs in the Executioner room did sometime in Beta.

Hey I remember you from "over there" :) !! Welcome to UOR and glad to see you came over.

If you need any assistance in game or are looking for an active guild PM me in IRC.

Yes you need the new client to run smoothly. I had glitches when I played the other client here.

I have both clients in different folders for the two servers. When Razor starts the key part is choosing the right UO.exe file location which will load the correct shard's client (you select the destination folder from within the Razor startup window when it pops up). I use the same (updated to recent release) Razor for both. When I started I attempted to copy my character profiles in the UOSA client folder and UO based macros unsuccessfully and ended up just reentering all the info in UO (example: bank, guards, pet commands, house commands etc.) for each character. I use the same Razor for both clients then load the profile I want that I've been using since uosa.

    Best of luck to you.
