You will not be aware of what is happening and will create three topics on normal days and five topics during the event periods. Not bad, just slow and not modern. I just wanted to say a few words in defense of irc, because it's just a modern way of fast and high-quality communication. Yes, the forum has become a little deserted, and many people loved irc ... Any gift items simply appear in the bank of your (ACTIVE) characters both on July 4th and on other holidays, anniversaries, new years, etc. This year the 4th of July bags are pushed back to the next day because the employees are humans and not robots heh. Come on Annabell, I am sure that your UO experience will not be spoiled by the modern way of communication. And of course, understand me correctly, I am calling you to a place where there is no advertising and shit, I am calling you to a place where we can chat at any moment, ask for help or provide any help and just have a great time with the same not indifferent wizards like you, me and the rest .. Yes, Discord hurt the forum and stepped over IRC, but it certainly doesn't make it any worse. It's very convenient for me to keep the community on my phone and always be in focus if necessary, because there are a lot of my cyber wizard friends LOL I regret that the stunning @One doesn't use discord, this badass veteran is on the retrospective wave too! Regards, Kir
Welcome to the forums master race, I hear many people use Discord for trading and neglect the forums. They say I'm missing out, but so are they so we are even.
Use whatever you like to ask questions; forums or discord are fine and when you a veteran player you can pass on your knowledge
My jeweler friend, I know you have the very best of intentions with trying to get me into Discord and I thank you whole heartedly for that. However, I have two main issues with Discord. Firstly, I feel that something of the original feeling of the game is lost when I use Discord. The feeling you get when you are looking for a friend, whom may or may not even be online, and you find them looking in the same place for you... Well maybe you wouldn't understand that. But it's the way God intended when he created UO. Secondly, and more sadly, I have had issues with stalkers on there I would rather not get into. So yes, I will miss out on things. Such is life! Happy 5th of July everyone!
You would be surprised how many people play this game without even touching Discord. I mean, don't get me wrong.. Discord has offered me great amounts of info on several questions I had. The community per si, is great.. But there are also other people, who avoid external communication programs, who will also deliver you a great experience if you ever encounter them. These people tend to avoid Discord at all costs, so try empathizing with them, or you will finally lose them.
When I came back to UO from a very long hiatus (maybe almost 8 years) in 2014 on UOSA, I didn't know about irc or did much on the forums. Anyone I interacted with was purely in game. It was pretty fun doing that. When I originally played on OSI, unless you got someone's ICQ or AIM screenname, you could only hope that you'd run across them at WBB or other areas they might congregate haha. Fun times!
Anna Red you aren't alone in your feelings about Discord taking away from the in game experience. The vast majority of people on OSI interacted with characters solely through the game and lived in Britannia, rather than accessing Britannia through Discord. I plan to use Discord in a limited fashion, mainly for news, but still haven't gotten around to it after almost a year.
I've also found by not using Discord and playing UO "organically," although I've missed out on some opportunities, at the same time I've also met people in game and done different things which never would have happened had I been on Discord. It's kind of fun, just to see where Britannia will take you through the keyboard alone.
