No he's just trying to say you're overvaluing it (without understanding supply and demand economics).
Overvaluing by a lot plat is practically worthless Supply keeps increasing every day of farming and demand keeps decreasing as no new rewards are released and everyone has blessed books. Hence why plat went from 10K to 6, to 5K, to 4K to worthless.
Thanks for the straightforward answer. For someone who is in need of a couple ethereal horses and a couple blessed runebooks, what should I expect to pay in gold or trade? I ran into this just recently with blessed spell books. Low value, yes. But you still have to find someone to sell it to you and few want to part with theirs. Different economics, but similar situation. I had to look for a beat.
Ironically you say this on a demand post. If they can find someone to sell them plat for a "worthless" amount than your statement would be true. However, just like De Beers and diamonds (to quote your original point) if the holders of said worthless item can create the appearance of scarcity it doesn't matter the true value, only what the market will bear. Also, plat has been 4-5k for years now so I wouldn't say it's plummeted. Not trying to hijack your post soup, hope you find someone selling.
