I was wondering if poison field is also affected by poisoning + magery. I remember using greater poison fields to farm orcs and ratmen, lizardmen out east of delucia back when the nox mage was introduced.
Does anyone have any thoughts on the behavior of the poison field spell with magery + poisoning as it was back in the era of the nox mage? Does it work like that here? The compendium would lead me to believe that it does not. It would be good to know before investing in a nox mage :/ Thank you!
I believe it produced greater poison if you had magery and poisoning during the UOR era (and after that change to poisoning). I believe it does not do that here, but it may in the future. My understanding is it is not intentional that it doesn't function the same way - and staff may be open to/planning to adjust this. It might be worth asking Telamon directly for his opinion on it if this is a deciding factor in you making a nox mage.
I've yet to turn up any evidence of this behavior, but it does logically make sense. If anyone has any research, or patch note documentation to support this change that would help with reviewing this change. That aside I think with a few caveats it would be possible and a reward for adding poisoning to a template, however the exact method it operates under would need to be carefully crafted.
this was a real thing in renaissance... but its extremely difficult to find anything about UO considering its +17 years old
I found it. Although it was part of publish 17----Age of Shadows Poison Field now deals a poison level based on the poison skill of caster. That's the 8th bulleted point under "Magic-related abilities and activities". http://www.uoguide.com/Publish_17
This does not seem to cause any issue towards anything I do or plan to do and would actually welcome it.
I have yet to hear anyone cite anything at all that would be bad about this change. Every time it has come up for convo it has been something along the lines of "Building this nox mage was a waste of time and resources. Maybe if poison field was buffed by the skill it would be worth it. I guess I'll just turn them into a fencer." Personally I also feel the range for DP chance should be increased to 3-4 tiles from the target. If it's not already a sliding scale based on range/potency, it should be. ie: 3-4 tiles for DP chance, 5-7 tiles for GP (higher success rate) and 8-10 for regular poison, %100 success (no chance of resisting for target). Do it.
ROFL. I like the dedication that went in to this. Tough gig you guys have. But I have to say I'm ok with it. It'd be fun to see people using field spells in combat.
