Im a experienced developer, and i do work as a senior dev. My main language is C#. I have experience on RUNUO, and already had experience making some stuff for a friendly server. So i was thinking... why i am not helping UOR somehow ? I got some time to spare and im pretty sure i could improve some 'non affecting gameplay' stuff at start. How could it be possible for me, to help UOR somehow ?
Awesome! Maybe send Telamon a pm in irc or forum PM here @Chris . He's pretty busy so you may or may not get a quick response but he does read them.
Ive sent Chris a PM, waiting for an answer. If he allows me to help im not changing big stuff at least from the start, gonna start slow, aligned to his ideas.
Given past actions of some, there is limited access to assist with development you are suggesting There are other ways to help UOR Donating, running events, prompting server, etc http://www.uorenaissance.com/support
As much as i wanted, thats not my thing. I work as a mmo server engineer, so im pretty sure my real contribution would come in form of code. But all good. I wouldnt even need access to the real server. I can run locally if that be a preferred development strategy and make Merge Requests. In fact, i wouldnt even recommend sharing server access to anyone except devops/sysadm
RunUO shards are coded in C# If you have some programming knowledge then i guess you can PM the boss and ask for permission to work on minor scripts / improvements that he has on his list. Having an idea about how RunUO works will be beneficial though, and there are free builds availabe (server runs on v.2.2) Another realy good thing is to have an idea what you would like to improve gameplay wise, this comes mostly by playing the shard though
I suggest publishing a downloadable file with select macros and/or razor settings that a noob could simply drop in over the existing files would go a long way to helping the new player get rid of some of the monotony and prep work just to be semi functional. Im not talking pots or anything but maybe the auto treechop east macro and eval int, hiding, simple stuff like that. Maybe one restock agent so the player at least has at least one working template to work off of. How much you want to include is up to you. I think there are a crapload more guides than show up in the skills tree on the website. Maybe an updated "One guide to rule them all" thread. With that said, I'm not sure how much else can be done. its a 20+ y/o game. This is hands down the best community and shard Ive ever been a part of. There are always event. The staff is around even though they get peppered with requests daily. The playerbase has its scoundrels but is overwhelmingly friendly and we all seem to want whats best for the shard who remain. Its an old game. You guys are awesome and we just need to keep collecting awesome people along the way.
