Always find pronunciation hilarious across the world for something that....well, sounds as it reads imo. Britain : Brit-an (or sometimes th good ol slip to Brit-in) Delucia: Del-ush-ia Felucca: Fel-ush-ia (heard people call it as if it was a verruca before) Jhelom: Gel-om Magincia: Mag-in-see-a Minoc: Min-ock (or if I'm chatting, it's Min-augh) Nujel'm: New-gel-m Ocllo: Ocllo (or again, chatting and it slips to Augh-lo) Papua: Pa-pu-a Skara Brae: Scar-a Bray (place in Scotland, trust me on this, it's gonna start with scar, and brae/bray is th same either way) Think of th 'augh' as groundskeeper willie having his 'augh' moments.....phlegm, but nothing to drown ya. And gel as the jel in jelly. And Lich: Litch (with a semi silent t), Wyvern: Wev-ern, Rune: Roon, Regs: Ray-g-s or Raegs....should there be an H in there? idk...
Actually Lando, if you know the history of the towns. Minoc did not start as a mining town, but was a Artist community, that's why the unfinished statues in town center. So mine...for mining.. has nothing to do with the pronunciation . Hope that helps. Westra
How did you know this? Was it covered in the other Ultima games? I've never played another Ultima game or gotten much into the lore of UO. All I really know is there is a Lord Britain and Lord Blackthorne. There was a guy named Mondain and a follower of his named Minax. The Avatar saves the world. That's the extent of my lore knowledge.
Ultima 7 is the only one I've played, but it was indeed an artisan town in that game. This link has some more info: http://ultima.wikia.com/wiki/Minoc Link also says it is pronounced MINE-OCK. I think UO is supposed to fall somewhere pretty 'early' in the Ultima timeline. Which would make some sense, since Skara Brae is an undead wasteland in Ultima 7, heh.
Skara Brae has always been my favorite town since '97. For some unknown reason I've always pronounced it scar-uh-bray. I guess it (for me) came from a sister, who's name is Kara pronounced car-uh.
Same as him ^ One of the funniest pronunciations I ever heard was a guy who called a lich a "Lick-id". Had to be there.
Britain: Minoc Delucia: Nujel'm Felucca: Dead Tree Land Jhelom: Gladiators Magincia: WTF? Minoc: Minoc (For Reals best town) and its MINE OCK! Nujel'm: Where that one dood does bods all day. Ocllo: Haven Papua: Swampy Bumpy Land Skara Brae: Tamers=Lamers
Very embarrassing but I was super young and terrible with grammar/dyslexic when I first played UO. I pronounced magincia as mag-knee-sia. Anatomy I pronounced autonomy. Minoc I always pronounced my-knock but my friend always called it minn-OCH and I find that funny. Probably worst of all my main character's name was misspelled "Felite-O-Fish" I look back and facepalm.
I pretty much Just copied from Blaise because he was the closest to how I say them, with a few changes. I say "min-nock" (Like Minerals) for Minoc I say "jell-um" for Jhelom I say "Ock-low" for Occlo I say "Scare-uh Bray" for Skara Brae I say "New Jell-um" for Nujel'm I say "Pap-oo-ah" for Papua I say "Del-oo-cha" for Delucia I say "Delusha" for Delucia I say "Fell-oo-cha" for Felucca I say "Fel-usha" for Felucca I say Regs because people say regs but I do prefer saying reagents however erudite it may be. I say "Reegs" (Like Buick Regal) for regs I say "day-mon" if there's an A in daemon, otherwise I say "de-mon" I say Demon, A or not for Deamon/Demon I say "sih-jil" for sigil, not seagull, seagill or otherwise. I say "Sigill" (G as in george) for Sigil I say "Wayvrn" for Wyvern
