There are too many mana dump Jokers in the field... Although new to PvP, I am looking to join Commander-in-chief to fight these red murderers who always appear in groups of 3 and... pledge loyalty. The other catch is I like to play melee with magery. I am also casual and much less hardcore than many of you. If nothing else, I can at least I take some damage! 4 random blue strangers riding nightmares as their mount would escape from a group of 3 pks? In other shards, there is C^V or similar righteous guild. why isnt there any here? I know there is a C^V here but no one seems to be there. Saving up for another 3 castles will not save you from the mana dumps! Do Something! My time zone is 13 hours faster than Eastern time.
"The other catch is I like to play melee with magery. I am also casual and much less hardcore than many of you." This pretty much nullified your application with me.
C^V, as you state, was such a righteous guild that they packed up and left after Telamon put a lot of effort into tweeking the Trammy aspects of the server for them. I would rather have griefing Pks that have respect than a bunch of pixel whore dropouts.
Actually, they basically fell apart when their most prominent active member here got locked up for some very undesirable actions in the RL.
This dichotomy of good vs. Evil is very obscured in UO because we want to affix a judgement on the player and not the character. If you assume that everyone who pks=an asshat irl, then you're missing a crucial point: you are both playing a (and therefore I assume you both like) a fantasy role play game and you both clearly have that in common. Sure, how you choose to play out your character may differ, but you both have the primary fact in common. I think the solution that fits involves somehow making a system that rewards keeping your character's reputation clean. The problem is there is no mechanical system that can account for the human variable. Somebody can be mechanically clean (e.g. no murder counts), but somebody could still accuse them off wrong doing. The best solution I can think of is a hybrid solution, using the system mechanics along with a voluntary commitment to keep your character's reputation 100% unsullied. The second part is the hardest because there are so many factors. In fact the only way for this to work is usually for the players to keep all other profiles anonymous. The second part of this solution requires a valuable but non-competitive system to give incentives. This is essentially the creation of a third criminal status which would be a guardian or hero class, one which a player's character can only belong to of they voluntarily commit to keeping their character's reputation according to the mechanics 100% clean and have Lord status, and their character's activities clean too. This could be offset by a criminal class which can only be reached by doing the opposite as far as mechanics go. You could only have one hero/villain charger per account. The key here would be the right form of incentives that cannot be gamed.
Um.... No. With respect to the Batman and Robins. This system has worked for this game for nearly 20 years. Jupiter, I know you are a good person of esteemed reputation because you come off that way. I don't need a system to reassure this. If we implement this system it destroys a part of the human connection we have to this game and makes it more mechanical. I would rather be somewhat on my toes everyday I log in. When I'm not I lose some excitement. That's why we quit the paid for shards.
I think we all ultimately want the ability or option to pass judgment on other players and act on it. That's why we play with Mechanics that allow for Player Killing. Every single person who plays under these Mechanics wants to PK. Some want to do it for material/pixel gains, some want to do it only when someone pisses them off, some want to do it just out of pride for being good at something, some want to do it for classic RP options, and on and on and on. I don't think it is ever a question of Good and Evil, it's whether you get ****ed or not. We understandably mistake the two when we have to bend over, or when we are too full of ourselves.
I still believe there should be some heavier repercussions to being a PK, stat loss is a joke. Most people don't even bother chasing reds down because there's no profit in it when you can craft and BOD your way to being rich, PK's are simply not a problem for the hardcore PvMer who knows the spots they rarely frequent and can simply restock if they happen to get PKed. There really aren't that many PK's out there causing problems these days to justify changing the current system.
There's also not to many who are even in stat loss, so it's rather irrelevant from that perspective too: The last 5 reds I've killed: http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/193337 - 1 short http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/282907 - 5 shorts http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/152722 - 2 shorts http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/1730049 - 0 shorts http://www.uorenaissance.com/player/529759 - 0 shorts And yeah, it definitely saps my interest in fighting. Most folks who would stand to take stat loss are in groups, too. The main issue from my perspective is that if there isn't going to realistically be any stat loss, there should at least be a nice bounty system. But no one has really come up with a good system for that in the era of the 3-account freeshard. At some point, the bounty becomes more valuable than the cost of retraining through stat loss (if any), and you just have an alt make the kill and collect the bounty. I, too, am pretty stumped by this problem.
