Hullo! Byword here. I've been hearing the call of UO again recently, and I stumbled upon this shard. From the outside, it looks really great! And judging by the forum posts made by other newcomers, the community seems really kind and welcoming! Always great to see. Just posting here to declare my existence, and to express my excitement to join you folks! I should be ingame in the next few days, and I may be in IRC before then. See you all soon!
Welcome! It's an awesome shard and I've been playing on it for over a year. I recommend making three gm fishers (two melee, one mage/provo) and a tamer to start out. These are great money making avenues on the shard. If that doesn't sound fun, mining is also a great place to start because ingots are always in high demand. For taming, see if someone can friend you to their compassion desert property, and start taming those scorpions! Then follow one of the guides on the forums to continue your progression through the animals. Enjoy and do whatever the hell you want! [Consider my words above as merely the advice of one person and their preferred play style.]
Check this out http://uorforum.com/threads/decemberfest-fishing-tournament-12-12-12-21.7774/. You can AFK macro fishing from a guarded zone till 99.9 safely and after that you just go to jail for a bit. You never know, you could luck out next week and get a nice start-up cash bonus. Good luck.
Actually you can go to 100 safely as long as you're fishing in shallow water. Either that or I went the whole night without getting the macro prompt.
Welcome to the shard Byword. It really is a great shard. You will enjoy your time here. Just ask the community in IRC when you need help or have a question, you will get prompt replies. There are various avenues of characters to make and enjoy the game. Some just take more persistence to see the fruits of your labor. Ditto this. Just did it last night.
How interesting to see a dageshed bet as your forum avatar! Might I ask if you ever ventured through the long lost realm of Final Aegis in your earlier UO years?
Thank you all for the warm welcome, and for your tips and advice! It is all greatly appreciated. I'm just macroing up right now for the most part. I hope to see you folks around the shard soon! Final Aegis? I'm afraid not, friend.
