I am looking for people: -Want to RP but don't have a guild suitable for them -Are in a RP guild but want to put a character in a different guild -Want to put a character in a RP guild but have never RP I am working on a new guild that will be designed small. The reason for this is this specific guild will be created in a way to allow growth in many different directions. This description is vague right now for the simple reason that I need a few players to start it. Once it has begun the guild will grow and advance in any way possible through actual roleplaying and events that will change the guilds course. I am also going to be working on a site once things get going. So as of right now there is no specific guild as of yet (other then yes it will be a RP guild). Once i get a few interested people then we will get it rolling and it will take its course. If you have ever wanted to create a RP guild or be the part of its creation and future then this is for you. I have lots of experience with RP guilds and RP in general. I have created, help ran and been a member of multiple different types of RP guilds. This idea that I have now is something I have never seen done or have done myself so it will be interesting. The guild could start out simple and then become complex all depending on the players RP within the guild and how other RP react with the guild. It DOESN'T change just because I want it to, it will be designed to do so naturally through the result of actions by Roleplayers. If you have any interest please get a hold of me You can contact me by: -Messaging me through the Renaissance forum -ICQ: 168912864 Thank You *RP = Roleplay, Roleplayer, etc.
Hullo there. Sounds interesting. It sounds like the concept is really open-ended right now, which seems intentional. Nevertheless, I have a few questions which you may or may not have answers for: How do you intend the guild will function? As in, will the guild exist mostly as a loose marker for people to recognize who is part of this community? Or is there a key concept uniting the guild (certain types of characters, an ideology, etc.). Do you plan on inhabiting a certain city in the game and roleplay that as your abode, or even eventually build a player-run city? Etc. Wishing you and your idea well!
i'm not sure that one guild's channel would be suitable for the entire community in the long run. particularly when rival roleplaying guilds get thrown into the mix. :3 you may remember back to the days when shadowclan tried to do something like that in the mirc room on siege perilous, and the drama with the UDL moles. i always liked fighting against you and mark though.
Byword those are great questions, I realize I have left the original description very vague. I will explain in my mind how i see it starting, this could be subject to change. I am looking to get a few people to help start the idea rolling from there it will shape itself. Its still a somewhat a vague concept for the direct start. But i'm thinking more toward the merchant and combat merchant characters at the very beginning. Most likely using Vesper as a city of choice due to its uniqueness and the fact it does have pretty much every NPC shop needed. Example of characters could be: A swordsman trained character that uses an axe so he has lumber jacking. Lumber jacking is a merchant type guild. You could even add carpentry to that and still have a decent overall skill set (sword, tact, anat, heal, lumber, carpentry, ________). That space could be another combat skill, magic resist, hiding, etc. It can be alchemy and still have the skills to make a great mage. Of course you can also have a pure merchant type with very little survival type skills. You can have a charter that is highly trained to handle his own in combat and just make a small change. You could drop hiding and start mining to help the merchant idea. At this point maybe a council is formed and from this titles given. This is how i see a very early start to a evolutionary guild. I plan to create self made style quest, they may request a certain amount of a resource. So we may need to pack horses to go to Minoc to mine 5000 Iron. This way a character with taming and animal lore because useful. Characters with a skill such as taming will be in charge of said pack horses during a hike to Minoc. Planned events like this will typically not be released in a public forum, all planned privately. The guild will decide a day to do the planned event and when the event is completed a detailed summary will be released to the public. That way it is known that activity is out there but not given planned day and times. This will hopefully detour PKs which i hope don't become to much of a problem ever. But also i hope it encourages other RP to become active. Hopefully the orcs start firing up the war horns and potentially have an encounter. I plan to work with GM's and other RP guilds on planned events. Could do planned (where we would publicly announce a date) merchant fairs that could invite tables from other merchants in other guilds. Working events with GMs could be something along the lines with asking for ambush from NPC like characters bandits, orcs, monsters, etc. I have a few other ideas that i need to discuss with them first. These events that interact with PC characters or NPC characters start to change the guild. More combative characters may need to be heavily recruiter for and that is when choices of how people RP there characters could shape the guild. More combative characters (whether pure combative or combat/merchant) or a change from mostly trekking with pack horses also involves ships. From here the guild become more nomadic where we could set up outpost staying in a area for a day or two. Does the guild just have some pure combat characters for simple protection or does a trained militia form. Does this next spin to the guild involve ships heavily where a Navy. From there you could see a trend towards pirate style tendency. Or does a more military style Navy take shape. Are ranks needed now, do we stage an area for training. These are just random ideas that the guild could come across. You could even become a class based guild. General Merchant, Bard (bard skills), Ranger (Archery, Taming, Stealth, etc.), Cleric (You cannot use certain spells). It could become a feudal/monarch style overtime. That all sounds vague and i know that and it supposed to right now. These are all just random ideas of ways it might spin into different stages of a guild. The purpose is to get players active and involved in there characters. This will be a strict RP guild with basic rules that will never change. Always stay in character at all times while speaking as the character (guild chat, forum, etc. don't count as the character itself). Character name is evaluated when joining. If you are making a new character you should ask me if it works. Your character can just be one name but you may be asked to have a last name in mind. All skills will be allowed as long as there is recruitment for it in the guild. The reason why i say this is because some RP/PVP guilds (which this is) have been known to not allow a tamer in combat. It has been deemed unfair due to many circumstances. PVP with other RPers with dragons wouldn't be to fair so yes there will be stipulations. You can't have more then 3 bears, 2 dire wolfs, 4 grey wolves, etc. I believe that allowing all skills and spells to have place in RP makes RP stronger. For RP/PVP full looting is available for this guild. RP Guilds usually have loot policies such as you can only loot a certain colored bag or only disarm (weapons, regs). I find that concept hard to sell in my mind. War is hell and expensive if you equip yourself for a intense battle and lose good items, so what. Does that mean everything will always be looted no not necessarily, how does your character feel at the time. Dialogue is crucial to rules of engagement. Don't have a i don't like you so I'm going to attack you attitude. Diplomacy will always be updated so yes hate for another guild could develop into attack on sight policy but won't start out that way ever. No more then two characters in the guild at all times. I know this all still sounds vague and honestly i'm half awake right now. But i do see a lot of potential in this style of guild. Creating events myself and with GMs will keep interactive and hopefully dilute any feeling of staleness. A lot of RP guilds get created and what you see is what you get, don't like it tough. Yes i do understand that there could be change that evolves the guild in a certain direction that someone might not like. They may quit the guild but that happens, they may also come back if it changes slightly again or they will stay to see and help create a new era. Just look how Europe change from Greek and Roman times with heavy merchant/military controlled by senate and become Imperial. Then Europe had shifted into a Monarch/Feudal era. This is within the concept of this guild, the allowance of change. Hopefully the change will mostly come from the interactive RP of the guild members themselves with whats going on around the character. Get a hold of me if you are interested in helping getting it rolling and start the evolutionary process. Yes, ICQ does exist. lol I am open to other means of communications ICQ used to be a popular way I do also agree with a roleplay tab in the IRC. I want to get RP active again I think this will help and hopefully the Orcs get real active. They always stir up the RP community into action. Questions are always wanted, I may not have answered many questions with this rambling.
Hi.... I do like the idea of role playing guilds....but drama between them..not sure that would be a problem here. Thus far our established role playing guilds seem to get along just fine.... I don't think you'd have trouble seeking interaction between or with other role playing guilds. A few questions....What sort of Role Players are you looking for? Ones who create a persona and stay within character of that persona? Or ones who portray evil or good? A mixture of role playing styles (such as elf folk, seasoned warriors, other species besides human: list is endless really) ? Will you allow PKers and other grievers in your guild as long as they stay within character. Or will your guild be one for the more peaceful minded? IRC is the standard message communication here. I don't use any voice chat myself, so I don't know which one is popular. Great idea... Role Playing has been part of UO since it's beginning. thanks Westra
I would like to start out that I have been playing and role playing on UO off and on since 99-00. I've been involved to help create and created many different style of RP guilds. Yes, I am looking for role players that stick to who there character is. Doing this will help shape the guild into the evolutionary path. At the beginning the guild will be of neutral alignment. This will hopefully set a path for our self sufficient merchant start. Basically, I'm not going to talk to you out of character and say your character is evil he's not allowed in. No, instead I will simply say since you have interest joining these are the rules of this RP guild. From there the actions of your character are going to impact the guild to make choices. If the guild is going into a rather flavorless path of good that your character may not like then he should not change his actions. If he is of an evil alignment then the guild may have to get a police style system initiated. Your character then could create a unknown small underground group within the guild itself. This group could consist of thieves, mercenaries, information seekers, etc. These choices will then possibly shift the guild into a new direction. Most likely if you are not allowed in its mostly going to be because of a lack of RP not a type of character. Allowing non human characters will be up to those involved with the start of the guild. From there it might be determined that only humans will be allowed, which can change over time. At first it may be only humans so if you have an Elf character, I would RP in game to show interest. Showing interest in joining could change the racial allowance of the guild. Or it could be that all races are allowed besides a select few such as orcs, vampires etc. If you are one of the first few to help start the guild rolling and your character is an Elf well then obviously the guild is going to start to allow such races. If all the characters that first start are Elves, hell maybe it will start Elven only (which I doubt). If there is strong interested by a seasoned warrior (or said seasoned warrior is one of the first few to get the guild start) then the guild could start with a watchmen, guard, merchant defender, militia, etc. You will never be asked to reveal your alignment in the open. Your alignment is determined by the way you act and react to situations. You may however be asked to put a description of yourself in your paperdoll. From there players will get used to seeing you and remember the actions they have seen you take. The Nine Alignments Nine distinct alignments define all the possible combinations of the lawful-chaotic axis with the good-evil axis. Each alignmentbelow depicts a typical character of that alignment. Remember that individuals vary from this norm, and that a given character may act more or less in accord with his or her alignment from day to day. Use these descriptions as guidelines. (click the alignment title for a broad description) Lawful Good, "Crusader" Neutral Good, "Benefactor" Chaotic Good, "Rebel" Lawful Neutral, "Judge" Neutral, "Undecided" Chaotic Neutral, "Free Spirit" Lawful Evil, "Dominator" Neutral Evil, "Malefactor" Chaotic Evil, "Destroyer" Click here for a shorten description of each alignment I hope this answered a few more questions out there. Have I ever taken in a project like this with this style of guild development? No I haven't. I have however been a part of or created many different styles of pure RP guilds. From a LG to LN style guilds from LN to CN style guilds and even from a Neutral to NE style of guild play. Here I want to allow the interaction from all Alignments to able to interact with there actions having an effect to the course of a guild. Right now the key thing is to find a few people to help develop a basic beginning of this guild. From there the possibilities are endless. Different ways of contact will be discussed during the creation. Yes with that IRC is good means there are others such as a private forum and messenger programs. Anymore questions or interest? As always feel free to get a hold of me. I hope some of you will be interested enough to help get the ball started from there the course of time and interaction in game will start the evolution.
It will definitely take some work to get this off the ground, but sounds really interesting. I'm not a big rper, but I'm willing to help you get started if you need resources etc. If this endeavor proves to be too great, there's some rp guilds that could use a leader to focus them. Be great if we could get a undead, Pirates, or knight guild going
The idea is not meant to govern a specific clan like is the tradition with Ultima Online, but to build a community with in a community that can grow off a series of circumstances that will occur much like the real world and life, every action has an equal or greater reaction. With a little fine tuning I believe this can be implemented by us. The exact resources needed are not entirely known at this moment considering the nature this community would take on. Also, the exact nature of what this society will do, again will not entirely be known, considering the idea is meant to evolve and not focus on a single objective. I will contribute in what ways I can.
AWWW, Classic D&D my first and GREATEST love!! So many hours invested in playing that WONDERFUL game!
