It's sad that thieves are christmas event outsiders.

That is currently the only way into someones event uninvited. Our policy has been to remove players who enter the events in this manner since there is nothing you can do other than harass the event in progress. Future versions of this system will disallow ghost entry.

Ok I get that. Thanks chris. The way people were talking it sounded like they were looting as ghosts

Also, it's fun as hell to try to ironman the AMIB events with a lockpicking rogue or a stealing rogue.

They would have had to rez, and stake out the chest. The main problem at the moment is the ghosts can ruin a players ironman attempt or affect their score as calculated during the event.

The concern is not that you would steal another players items, thats part of the game. But these were interested to be a sort of scored challenge.

I also was bummed I couldn't steal in the Holiday Event, as I was able to stealth into a gate and follow a group while they took it down. I wish I knew about the chests, or I would have tried to "borrow" some of the goods!

I believe the life of thief should not be too easy, or extremely lucrative - or everyone would play a thief. It would be horribly boring. Those who put the time and effort in, will really reap the rewards. It's the long game.

Thanks for the explanation Chris - looking forward to the "rogue end-game". Any teasers you can reveal?

Thanks alot for the detailed answer, Chris. As far as I understand it, it is allowed to enter the instances of other players by means of hide/stealth as these methods can be easily prevented by a bit of caution, while ghosting is undeniably unfair. Correct me please, if I am wrong and any non-consensual entering of instances is forbidden even when severe security flaws have been made (e.g. hosting them in public).

I agree with this fellow in that if you are in the physical form and you manage to stealth/sneak in it should be allowed. Seeings how you can completely prevent this with minimal security.

    Complete side note:

Unfriended ghosts of a house should auto-reveal on entry OR we should allow the spirit speak skill to auto-reveal ghosts within a certain area of the skill. The only thing I have against using ghosts as spies is that there is 0 ability to deter against us (other than building disgusting table barriers OR ghosting yourself, bleh.

However, if you could use spirit speak to reveal, then "I ban thee" to expel a ghost, I would be more in favor of using ghosts for these kinds of tactics.

If you want to use a ghost out in the fields, that is fine, but we could at least have a way to know if a ghost was around (other than sending in a ghost ourselves).

Stealthing/Hiding/Live Gate jumping is all risks the scroll owners undertake. Ghosting however is hard to prevent, and should I have had time I would have restricted.

We are discussing a possible improvement to the spirit speak skill allowing you to "reveal" ghosts in your house however.

This would be awesome. I know I asked you recently about house ghosting because of the spooky visitor I had trapped in my house a couple weeks ago.

I know that the short solution would be to try and box the ghost in to prevent their movements but that's only half the battle when being ghosted. Also, if a ghost tactically decides to stand in the threshold of a door then there's no amount of boxing in you can do without completely taking that doorway out of service, which in most houses is just not possible.

    +1 for spirit speak +ban.

While I like the idea of making spirit speak useful, I would prefer detect hidden to reveal ghosts.

I'm sure it's going to work similar to how detect works now.. you won't need any skill if you're a friend of the house or greater.

Besides, a ghost in your home isn't going to be as prevalent or as damaging as a stealthing burglar.

Ah ok, As long as I don't have to gm spirit speak to detect ghosts in my house that is perfect.

Yeah you'd only need GM spirit speak to detect roaming poltergeists out in the wild.

    Hey Chris,

I just wanted to remark that I and the whole of 5D would love to participate in the development and testing of such an endgame system, in case you need any help, feeedback and/or suggestions. Because such a system might affect my gameplay and that of the other thieves quite alot (I really hope that it will not distract us too much from actual stealing from other players, i.e. players stealing from NPCs are definitely not thieves in the sense of the long tradition of UO thieving.)

Agreed. We would be happy to help test any of this system.

Sure, We have a rough plan outlined at the moment but I would be happy to discuss it in the future. We have plans to extend the endgame elements for all classical playstyles as much as possible within the bounds of our world mechanics.

    2014!

Ready for this now! (you can put moats and cub on the back burner, they aren't as important anyhow)

I'm always willing to help test and provide fair insight on fixing the guards/weights/fails/grey systems as well.
