Waaay back in the day, when I ran a public server, I made a castle in middle of ocean for the Pirate faction we had. Did not take anything away from the era, nor did it add anything people would frown upon. Chris could place one, build a dock around it, and make a auction. Payable to Chris. Just a thought.
I'm worried about the rewards that gold sinks produce. Can we make sure there is no neon or really gaudy rewards? I want UO:R to stay beautiful!
All I am saying is to have maybe 10 small - medium sized homes. Only 1 deed of each can be sold and they cannot be resold to the vendor. Have it also be a random deed so you cant choose. Designs are appeasing and dont include any of that crazy crap we witnessed when custom housing was released on publish EA servers. @ 10 mill each = 100 mill out of the economy As a reference of design I took some pics from AI, an old abandoned server. However we, as a player-base, can submit our own designs to be voted on. These homes do not need any patching done by us.
I understand the worry. When we are talking a large amount of gold being sunk into one item, I think some neony dye tub hues are perfectly fine because they just won't be running rampant on the server. An expensive gold sink for plain dull colors is just pointless. I don't see everyone having neons if for instance it was 10 mil for a mask dye or sandals. Sure the numbers would increase but there would also be variety. I know lots of people have gold but I really don't think everyone has 20 mil to drop on a set when this happens and it makes a nice end game for people to go for. Anyway, my dream of a premium dye tub mask dye/sandals gold sink im sure is doomed to never come about anyway. Now where you have servers where people are buying these items for IRL moolah via rewards vendors and you can get neon sandals or masks for 500K-1mil thats where you will see it running rampant and do see it. It would just be nice to have some rewards that cater to those who like some trammel wear and have it that there is some good variety and more of a freedom for the person getting the reward to get colors that they want not staff mandated dull stuff. Plat is all about house deco for the most part and neon hair dyes are the only gold sink we have. Like I said though I have no doubt that this won't ever happen anyway because of that exact aversion to having "too much" neon around.
The servers that I am referring to are a lot like the games we see on our smart phones as far as real money rewards are concerned. Me personally, I would never spend a dime IRL on UO and never would spend a dime IRL on a little game on my smartphone. However, these things exist because people are willing to throw 20 bucks, 50 bucks, 100 bucks to get something they want even in the most pointless little game they are playing (as in little smartphone games.) That is why you see neon colors running rampant on those servers. Obviously this is a free server with no real money rewards so that would not be an issue. You can't buy any sandals or masks or dyes via an IRL money reward vendor nor can you buy gold with IRL money via a reward vendor so something like this would be a true gold sink... Anyway, I can dream for things but at the end of the day, I'm still happy with this little world of ours and will continue to be!
Com Crystal bless deeds would be neat. 50k 4 week single rune bless deed/15k 1 week Single rune dye tube, same colors as books i like the chop-able door/door deed idea but it seems complicated House dye deed - super specific on non tacky colors, specifically for stone homes, small tower, large tower keeps and castle/forts. ie lighter/darker stone tones. super emphases on Non-tacky Change the lock-down/secure house add-ons from plat to gold, purchasable from the house menu. A lot more would be sold in that "cr*p i need just 25 more lock-downs" house deco scenario. I am 100% against weapon blessing, neons, increased bank space (this is what make housing what it is, ask me there should be a weight limit also) A good coin sink is something everyone on the server will want to use and use often. Anyhow just some ideas.
These are all wonderful ideas. I like the thought of house add-ons or modifications being a gold sink. Extra lockdowns, secures & perhaps special sets of house textures (floor tiles, colors, etc.) would also make awesome gold sinks that wouldn't cut into the platinum rewards system if it were a gold only option. House decorations & runebook bless deeds are far more desirable as a platinum reward than extra lockdowns & secures. Just my two cents!
I have a few ideas in mind for new plat rewards. A Single Blessed Rune A Blessed pouch you can trap X amount of times Small animated house decor (steaming mugs, fireplace tiles, bubbling flasks) House Teleporters House Placards New Animal/Monster Plat Statues Expanded Furniture Dye Tub Colors
Actually guys, why not make plat rewards also cost some gold? Rewards not only become a platinum sink but a gold sink. Maybe reduce reward plat costs by 20% on an item, and make up the rest in gold.
Because plat is readily available. 70,000 active plat @ 6k = 420 mill vs 180 mill active gold No one is going to spend more in gold when they can just buy plat at market or slightly above.
The point is just getting gold out of the economy. Reward item costs 50 plat and 60k for example. Just throw gold tax on top.
This is probably the best idea. You need the gold to be spent on something that doesn't put it in the hands of other players, and doesn't give you something that helps you make more gold (i.e. reagents).
Adding a gold fee on platinum purchases could certainly start chipping away at things, but it would still be nice to have some big cash items (items are not in existence and would not directly lower the value of existing items). Masks and sandals of course come to mind, as long as the hues aren't out of Tela's acceptable scope. I would likely offload a bit on a set of fancy trammel. They could even be sold in limited quantities per hue. Would item bless deeds be too terrible? Say, if they were 20 mill or higher? As owner of 4/6 of the bubbling flasks, I would be against making those (or any other server birth type) available for purchase (though if you want an animated flask, I may be able to part ways with one for the right price!). I think house teleporters could be pretty nifty though. I would hope that they would be very pricey though.
They are from previous years' scavenger hunts and events. I acquired them with by pestering people with offers of many gold coins.
