Hail everyone! I'm back from a 6 month hiatus and wanted to come back to play my naturalist Treasure Hunter. For those not familiar with the drill: no macroing is allowed to raise your skills. Since my T-Hunter is pretty low on cartography, I am looking for people with lvl 1 t-maps who want to go dig them up and gather the riches, preferably with a fellow naturalist. If anyone is willing, just send me a message or reply to this thread! Thanks a lot
I'm assuming here but, based on your post would I be correct in thinking that were someone to offer you say... 100 or so Tmaps that'd go against your play style?
Heya Wyl! That's a good question as there are as many ways to play a Naturalist as there are Naturalists out there. My personal rules are: No AFK macroing No Donations from any of MY characters Razor to be used only for connecting, self bandages, self potions. No Dress agents etc. This means that I am totally open to donations (my funds are a bit low, which shouldnt be a surprise), even if it's a TRUCKLOAD of maps. After all, Sosaria is an old and vast world, why wouldn't there be so many treasures around. TLDR: it doesnt go against my playstyle, quite to the contrary, my character would probably see it as an opportunity to document vague legends of treasure troves.
Hey man good luck with the naturalist. I know everyone makes their own rules with it but I just had to say...how is there a difference really between you stocking yourself with tmaps and someone else that isn't yourself hooking you up with maps? Just a curious question because there really isn't a difference in the end except it isn't your own stock being given away to yourself... Anyway, enjoy however you do things!
One difference, to me, is that by interacting with another player for maps you're engaging with the game's multiplayer aspect, however trivial that engagement may seem. Supplying yourself with your own maps is like playing single-player mode. Traumaturge may have a different opinion, of course.
Elegant and precisely what I was thinking. Good luck sir. If I see you in game I'll definitely dig up a few chests!
@Andersonius Precisely what @Alice Asteroid said. It comes down to playing UO like it was "back in the day" (or as close to it as possible) where that "in the day" means the time when you were still discovering the game and not macroing to get to the endgame itself. Back in the day (or at least in my day) there were already people out there who would donate stuff or had engaged in commerce over certain item types (not Tmaps of course, but exceptional weapons were hot currency). In that sense, as Alice mentioned, I see myself as allowing the multiplayer "pre-self" dynamics of the shard come into play. As far as motivation goes... I never played a treasure-hunter in the olden days or at any point really: I figured I might as well discover the class as if I was a newcomer to the game. Of course it's never perfect: I have knowledge of the mechanics, of the endgame of the class though I never lived it, of server dynamics, etc. But it's pretty close... And I must say it's been a while since I had felt glee at gaining +0.1% fencing. I was so used to settling that in an overnight macro that I realized I had forgotten the mini dings of simple combat skills. I would certainly recommend it to everyone: it's a hard trudge, and holy shit are there easier classes to play a naturalist as than a treasure hunter FFS, but it's still fun! Even raising a dexxer would prove interesting imho.
@Jupiter Thank you for the encouragement! You are most welcome to join my adventuring errands anytime!
Actually guys I apologize as I misread this post. For whatever reason I read through it and thought you were asking for tmaps....not have another naturalist come with you to do the maps.... lol disregard! But good luck with it all. This is one facet I have never ventured into.
I wasn't effectively asking for donations in my post but was, and still am, certainly not closed to them. Thanks for the encouragement!
What I saw in my silly misreadings was a contradiction to the class by asking for a hand out and though I was not criticizing I was still waaaayyy wrong. This is more reason why I need to get more sleep lol. I am familiar with the concept of playing a naturalist and everything. I don't know if I will go that route with a character as I don't have enough time to do the normal UOing I would like to do
I created the irc channel #UORNaturalist a while ago as a way for naturalists to get together, but no one ever comes into it except me.
I'd be willing to join you; i made a new character with this in mind, about a week ago. Hit me up on irc or message me on here.
