I have nothing positive to add except that I will be starting my thief soon…very soon and Where did you get that robe?? Or can you tell me the hue? hahah sorry
I went to do the bag inside a bag with scrolls and its stealing the whole bag when i target the bag not the scrolls inside? Any reason why? If I put to many in it says to heavy in general.
I've never made a thief. I have some general questions about the profession. When you attempt to steal something does the message always flash warning the player? If you're on foot is there any way to get away? Does snooping break stealth? Is there any reason to gm snooping or is 75% enough? What level stealing and stealth would you need to go after evil mage npcs? Can you hide immediately after stealing before someone attacks you? Also can someone explain perma grey? How you get it and how it expires?
1: This depends on if you are caught or not. You can be successful but noticed which means players can see the message, you can be successful but unnoticed, which means people will not see the message. You can fail but not be noticed, which means people can not see the message, you can fail and be noticed, which again, means people can see the message. Usually in guarded areas, being noticed means a nice shiny halberd embedded in your head 2: If you are on foot, you have a number of ways to get away build dependant. Stealth can help but only for 10 steps at GM stealth, this means you need to use this resource wisely. You can use magery, the terrain or even monsters to reduce the chance having an out of body experience. 3: Snooping shouldn't break hiding, although I have yet to test this as I am just currently training my thief *will edit in the near future*, GM snooping is always great to have, the last thing you want is your mark noticing your attempt at snooping when they have a high valued item in their pack. 4: Stealing is always best at GM, if you are tricky enough, you do not need to use stealth when stealing from mobs. If you do insist on stealth, 90 is the minimum with minimum fails.. 5: That would be telling.... 6: Perma-grey is when you steal from a player and are not killed in the process. You are essentially permanently grey to the player and anyone else until you die to said player or another player *please confirm*. This means that you are freely attackable from anyone, BUT your name in-game will show as blue (innocent) to anyone but the individual you stole from.
I'll answer what Darkana couldn't. 2- Recall is the best, because stealing has a delay of 10 seconds, which means you can't use any skill for 10 seconds, so recalling (if you can) seems to be the best option. Steal and hit the recall macro to somewhere discreet, then hide away. 3- Snooping won't break stealth but yes you should get 100 snoop so people won't know you're a thief until you actually steal. 4- Go for 100, meanning you can steal more. You will be revealed anyway when you steal and you got 10 seconds to use another skill, in which that mage will SURELY attack you with a FS. 5- No, after the skill is succesful, you have a delay of 10 seconds before you can use another skill. Recall or Invis yourself.
ok Ive made some progress since I posted this. I have 100 of everything thief related except hiding somehow and have it pretty much figured out although Ive yet to get a big score.
The thief has many pockets with many secrets, if you continue to use it a few years from now, you will still learn new things. There are techniques which will allow easier access to even the most guarded of pockets and sometimes, even the most guarded of houses. The elusive big score you are looking for will most likely come when you are not prepared for it, perhaps even successful in the theft and have a hell of a hard time with aggressors, this will be the time where if you succeed and get away, you have broken down that boundary.
Hi I have a small question. I try to steal the bag in the bag wich is on the floor of my house but it says "You can't steal that" . Weight is ok for my skill level. I also tried it in a public place. Anyone have a clue on that? Thanks
While i've been gaining fine. I am at 98.6 stealing (real) and i get the message "object too heavy" at 10 stones. Has there been a change in stealing since this was originally posted; if so, will I be able to steal 10 stone items at GM?
Good call wylwrk, I misread the macro instructions. I had 10 bottles inside a bag and was attempting to steal the bag. 9 bottles was fine though, despite the macros instructions of 8. I GM'ed the other day. Thank you for the quick reply!
It's still a great stealing guide in 2017. That's the method i use actually for my thief character and it works fine . Thanks
Guide still works. Macro I made and use to train from 30 to GM. Disarm and drop bag on first run (added for DC's ahd forgetting) then it adds a board once you get to x5.1. I used boards instead of bottles because my house is in a forest. Retarget everything for your own use if needbe (which you will because unless you're at my house, these targets won't work) Set up your own Organizer Agent to drop the bag/box/pouch/chest or whatever. Just want to say a massive thank you 0 to GM no skill buying in 23 and a half hours. BOOM! Now I just gotta wait a week to join the thiefs guild....haha
You don't need the stealing skill for this. Anyone can look and take something from the chest after it has been unlocked and its trap has been disarmed You will however turn into a criminal for 2 mins if you take something from the chest and are not in the group that completed the treasure map. The exact message you will receive is as follows:
I understand that part, but someone once told me that you could actually steal the metal chest off the ground once it was emptied as long as you were the one to dig it up
