Determining hue 'number'?

I've seen people refer to in-game items with a hue 'number'. How do I determine what hue number my items are, and can I dye clothes with a number I want rather than having to use the dye tub swatches in the game?

Sorry if this is wrong place for this thread, I tried searching but couldn't find much about it...

It's a razor thing. And AFAIK, you can't.

When you get up there a little more in game, and you have some disposable income, you can spent 10001gp on a house deco tool. It's blessed and you can carry it with you. There's an option for "Details" and you can use that to find a hue, as well.

Wait, the house deco tool is blessed?? or newbied?

    Wow. Never knew that.

I am relatively certain it is blessed, not newbied, but I know for sure that it's at least one of those. I carry one on my main at all times.

Why does that tool actually do? Is there a guide out there for it?

Not sure if there's a guide for it, but you can use it to raise and lower locked down items and containers (as long as the containers aren't too heavy). Many items can also be turned using the tool, but not all things can be. This is especially useful for furniture. The "Details" feature will tell you information about an item, such as the hue, and the item name (for example, if you use it on a certain style of bone container, it calls it BoneContainer4). That information can be used to look up the items on the UOR site.

Sound like pretty much a "must have" for any home owner then.

An Identifier can be made by any tinker with a mininum of 40 skill and 25 ingots. This is much cheaper than the house tool and much faster to use than the Razor method.

To add... the identifier was a tool added by our developer some time ago.

Underappreciated... underused. Have a tinker make you one today in your favorite ore coloured hue.

Omg I've never heard of that. I'll have to play with my tinker when I get home.
