I'm looking at exploring a new avenue of the game this weekend than my usual "hunt/kill with various templates" and "fish until I forget to refresh my boat". I'd like to get some opinions on which path to go next. I'm considering mining (battlemining?), crafting (BODs), and lumberjacking. Can folks help me to understand the potential fun and reward (gold/hr, loot, etc) of these different paths? i've done some basic research in the forums, but it's hard to understand exactly how profitable and how "active" some of these things are from a time-consumption perspective are. Would appreciate all perspectives!
Lumberjacking is boring as allgitout and is really only a means to an end; that is, most do it to max dmg as an axer. However, with the carpentry BODs on the horizon there may be some hefty demand for wood. Mining is a lot of fun and quite lucrative if you sell the ingots - especially with the battlemining route. If you plan to craft or do smith BODs then all the better for you since you now have your own source of ingots. Crafting on UOR basically means doing BODs. While you can make items (armor, weapons, furniture, etc.) for players to buy the market is pretty small. BODs are a game of chance with potentially huge payoffs but you'll be grinding for a long time (unless you are unbelievably lucky) to get what you need for the huge payoffs. The stuff you get along the way with BODs, though, can provide a very nice income.
Battle mining for stone ingots and smith BODs is easy, funnish, makes lot of gold, and there's a guild of miners now!
There's a high demand for clothing bless deeds at the moment. Be a tailor. Regarding "fun", that's subjective. 1. Start game without Razor 2. Set resolution to 800x600 / FULL screen 3. Turn game music ON 4. Make a miner, start in MINOC 5. Ignore the in game multi-step macro capabilities. At best, use item and last target should be the most complex you use. 6. Mine like it's 1999
