Rofl, although I love the renaissance era..I have not played in 5 years and all that seems to happen to me ( day and a half old toon) is as follows..kill skeletons and get enough gold for bandages...move to despise ti work skills and make money....get pk'ed as soon as I have a lil money and am ready to leave...rinse repeat no mater where I go....love the game but damn...really..

Find a place more off the beaten road if you can. Despise is a fairly classic PK hotspot and reds roll through there fairly regularly. I'd personally recommend the Lost Lands. The recall restrictions make it annoying for reds to get to. And the large hunting areas make it pretty unprofitable and barren for reds.

Also, you might like to try a non-PvM route to make money. Especially for accumulating bandages. Pick cotton, flax, or wool; spin it; and loom it. You'll have a couple thousand bandages in no time. You don't need Tailoring or any special skill to do this. (though magery for recall speeds things up)

I would also suggest putting points in to Hiding (free) and Magery. I rarely have trouble running and recalling from a PK.

    Hey guys!
I just started on UOR a few days ago and wanted to say thanks to everyone for creating informative threads like this one. I personally don't like handouts but I do appreciate free advice! For me, the most entertaining part of the game is creating a new character and training from the ground up. The only exception being Taming... I hate training Taming... Anyways, so far it looks like I'm going to enjoy UOR (my first free shard!)

Hello all, I would like to just take this opportunity to introduce myself. I used to play UO many years ago, just before WOW Cataclysm came out and that's when I made the switch. Not because WOW was better but because the Renaissance was over. EA killed the game. I used to play on the Atlantic server and had 4 accounts. I was so happy the other day when I came across an ad on Google for UO, I don't know why I chose to search Ultima Online, But when I saw this server, I immediately got excited as hell! I spent sooo many hours playing this game, and LOVED the simplicity before it was killed.

Anyway, enough rambling, I just want to say thank you to all those that have made it possible for me to enjoy playing MMO's again(Im not sure exactly who to thank, but I look forward to being able to contribute any way I can once I have established myself.)

Welcome aboard sir, this is where it's at. The very best way to show your support is to pay it forward and help those who come later than you and those you find in the field, to get the most out of UO:R!
Beyond that, spread the word and bring all your friends. :)

Welcome! The realm here is shaping out brilliantly.

This is the place that has all the elements of UO I love. Every class is viable here: Crafter, Hero, Hermit, Villain, Champion PvPer, fumbling old grey wizards, etc.

You'll find you can thoroughly enjoy any element here and the staff is active to boot!

It brings back the fun of actually exploring the land. See you in Sosaria

Hey, me and a friend started playing here yesterday! I choose this shard over UOforever because it seems more balanced and well kept. And dare i say? a more mature playerbase. First impressions are good, but it's so boring killing sheeps in Uncclo. And we are out of bandages already. Any help would be appreciated, we want to start pvping as soon as possible. I will ask on IRC.

Just a question, is making a warrior so we can make money for training up a mage a slow way to go? Thanks

Welcome, to UOR, Shantibaba. IRC is certainly the way to get the most help quickly.
As for making a warrior for money, yeah, it might be the slow way to go in the long-run. You'll want to use all three of your legally allowed accounts to really speed things up. Keep playing those warriors on one account while you train up a bard on another. Barding is the way most would suggest making money to train. It's just about free and relatively quick and easy. Once your bard is half-way trained you'll be raking in the gold.
If you need a house to train in just ask in IRC. There are numerous players that operate new-player housing in a variety of locations.
And if you hurry you can get your PvP mages into the tail-end of a resist session we're currently running and train up your magic resist for free.
