Being tasked to sell the game in its entirety may be to much to ask, so instead I will point out some key features that stick out for me.

Housing: I have search for 15 years to find a game that has a housing system even close to UO. Over world placement of house directly onto the game worlds map, and the mechanics of housing in Ultima have never been duplicated.

Not about XP: You can max out most character templates in a day here, the game is not about building xp points, its about building true skill.

Risk: In felucia, as this server is played in, you can lose everything if you do not protect yourself. That shiny new sword your running around with can be stolen from you at any time, all the items on your person can be ripped from your murdered body, no one here is geared up in the "top tier" items running around like they can never lose it.

True freedom: This game is literally what you make of it. No quest lines, no level grinding, no path to follow. You want to kill monsters, gain massive wealth, buy yourself a giant fortress and sip beer from the roof? Do it. You want to murder every player that crosses your path, take all their items, cut off their head and put it on display on your door step? Have at it. Want to rescue every lost soul, defend the weak, become loved by the masses? The world is yours, take it.

You could go on and on with small things that when put together make UO unmatched even after almost 20 years. The learning curve is sharp, but the reward is great.

*Tip #1: bank it if you dont want to lose it. :) Good Luck

    Hah die bear die!

You can play this game for 18 hours straight and not get bored if you mix it up!

    Warriors running dungeons together
Fishermen on a boat pulling up serpents, boots, nets, messages in a bottle (you get coordinates and can fish up treasure!)
Making a craftsmen and selling your wares
Player vs player combat in order/chaos guilds or faction-based pvp.
Playing an evil murderer killing other adventurers!
Making a tamer that Controll powerful dragons and other beasts!
Making a treasier hunter/mapper and dig up treasure on land!
Role-play a majestic cat vendor that sells magical wizard kittens
Role-play a man who blocks off bridges into town with tons of animals and collects tolls for money!

So much to do. Never gets old :)

Its Guts in your Profile pic!

Damnit, lets found the Band of the Hawk!
Fun fact: that was actually the first thought when i started to play UO :)

You will like it here, there are a ton of things to do, and we have a very awesome staff/community.

Take your time to learn the mechanics, and dont take too much free stuff (as Elhorno said).
Once youve managed to get over this stage then im pretty sure you will fall in love with this game in no time (its seriously one of the best games ever created)

The best way to experience UO is to actually play it.

    Welcome to UOR!

    +1 to this here.

Having enough gold/houses/rares is not an issue for anyone that actively plays this game. You will get there before you know it if you play the game and have surplus to the point that you are offering to give stuff away to new people soon enough.

Taking handouts will only make that amount of time shorter and diminish the experience for you IMO.

That being said UO in general is a harsh world. Open world free for all pvp with full loot isnt for everyone. If people need some help or handouts to keep them from getting disinterested or frustrated Im all for it. Most people playing UO 20 years after release know the deal though...and specifically come here expecting it to be less than an easy start.

The community here is great. Dont confuse that with PvP. Just because someone kills you and takes your shit doesnt make them an asshat. Again....its what makes this game great and what most people are here for.

If there were no risk of loss it would be a boring themepark with no reason to play and no people playing it.....either than or a vanilla nonsense game like the 1000s of other knockoffs you see advertised on mmorpg.com or in your email spam folder every day.

    Welcome to UOR!!!
