Depressing Housing Situation

Hello Everyone,
So myself and four friends have decided to get back into playing a bit of ultima online. We looked around at the shards that are still running and we decided to give this shard a try rather than UO forever because we heard UO forever is basically pay to win. In the few days that I have been on the server I keep seeing empty house after empty house and as I understand it each character you have can own one house (so 15 houses between three accounts vs the 1 per account we are used to). I spoke to a GM in game the other day and he mentioned something about changing the housing situation ("clean up Britannia") but I can't seem to find any information on this other than the fact that the housing situation has been like this for a number of years. Does anyone know if the housing situation is going to change anytime soon? Thanks.

Thank you for the reply but I already saw that thread. Yes you can justify people hording houses but I would just like to know if things are going to change...

People hording houses means there's demand for housing. That means things are okay. I was here when people didn't bother filling Keep spots and let them sit open. The things you lament about are not problems at all.

Yeah.... I have come across a few open plots but I just don't have the money to place a house. Well thanks for answering my question. Sadly not what I wanted to hear.

Ya buddy. I felt the same way when i stated to play here. Then i came across a spot to place a patio home (tower may fit). I know theres plenty of plots available but they are in not so ideal places.

I would say if you came with friends. Start idocing. Lots of pvp and get u geared up fast.

Not sure what else you "wanted to hear" other than that Telamon has secretly implemented green acres and there's fortress housing for everybody.

There's always housing movement on the trade forums, and a motivated buyer can usually obtain a property they're after given enough time and effort. Given you don't even have the funds to place yet, I'm not sure why you describe things as "depressing". I started here with a small and gradually worked my way up, which I'm guessing most here did.

That is the largest pile of bullshit I have ever seen, of course its a problem and the reason is simple as it always is "because you can"

Started with a Log Cabin, myself. I hadn't lived in one for a long time, so it was a nostalgic thing.

I have several houses too, but i usualy try to use them for different reasons.

Those are for example my own home (i still live in a rahter small villa), Guildhouses for new players, Mining houses, Vendor Locations, guard/spy houses and safe houses near dungeons which are always handy.

There are a lot of things that you can do with your houses, im pretty sure everyone has a reason for placing houses.. even if its just a blocker for bigger houses, or to sell / give away the house to a later time.

all of which could be done with 1 house per account

I wouldn't get too down about not being able to afford a house yet. I played on here more than a month before I had a house.
Also if you need a house to macro in check with MikeK from Project Sanctuary. Also Lightshade might have a house you can macro in.

Lawl yeah I am feeling the bern. Seeing all of those empty houses is just depressing. All I did was ask if things are going to change because I thought a GM mentioned that they would. Obviously people are getting defensive because they have 15 houses that they want to keep. I don't care why you think having 15 houses is a good idea, I just wanted to know if things are going to change. Apparently there isn't a problem with the housing situation despite all of those empty homes so I guess I will work on getting my 15 houses. That way I can admire each of them once every two weeks. A sticky from an actual mod, or someone who has something to do with the operation of the server, on this topic would be helpful.

I can see a large patio plot, and a small tower plot from the front door of one of my properties.


Within three screens either direction... Five opportunities to place homes of various size. I just placed smalls on all of them in contempt of the powerlessness oozing all over the original post.

It's hard to empathise with someone who is predicting failure before a personal attempt.

Yeah, I just did a run around and found a tower spot and several villa and L-Shape spots. I do this everytime one of these silly threads crops up.

To all serious UOers, there is no comparison. Obviously you want your hand held or are looking for somewhere to input your credit card for house plot. This is not that place. You are gunna have to earn your house here. As other posters have mentioned, there are plenty of spaces to place your own house and plenty of opportunities on the forums to buy even more houses. I'm not sure why you care if people deco their houses or not. This is hands down the best shard out there and if people having empty house's is a deal breaker for you then I pity your decision making ability.

Also the vast majority of players don't own anywhere NEAR 15 houses.

Russell you are the King of placing shitty houses in game all over the place in an effort to flip for like 50k so I am not sure how you are taking this stance.
These are all your shitty houses in the last week or so and I feel like there are hundreds over the years. Personally I don't think having a housing market is a problem and if you do, you are like the poster boy of that problem with your empty houses all over the place.
