Asking for your prayers to help my Mother beat cancer. Please take the time to read.

Hello everyone. I'd like to preface my post with: this is a long read but it would truly mean everything to me if you could take some time out of your day to help a mother in desperate need of prayer.

Most of you know who I am, and the closest people to me know why I'm no longer playing here and why that is the case. I am not asking for your pity but for your prayers as I tell my story to everyone - friend or foe, please take a trip with me as I explain what I've been going through the last year of my life.

I started on UOR in October of 2014 and quickly became addicted to this great server. The community was unparalleled and the quality of the server allowed me to reach new heights of nostalgia never experienced before on other shards. Needless to say I became addicted fast and invested a ton of time gathering pixels. It wasn't long before I had millions of gold and a ton of high quality items and property in my name. My mother used to play with me back on OSI in the late 90's, early 2000's, and also played with me here for a few months before we got the news that would forever change both our lives.

Cancer. Cancer had hit my mother hard and unfortunately we found out too late. Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the esophagus and stomach. This is one of the rarest cancers out there and because of that it's not studied as much and overall less is known about how to deal and treat this fast-spreading, unknown cancer. This happened in early March and anyone that knows me or plays with me realized I quickly stopped playing the game I love, letting my two Keeps fall and all my items decay, just so I could spend 100% of my time by my mothers side; bringing her to chemo and radiation every morning for months. Despite my immense love for UO and this shard in particular, I lost my motivation to play during any free time I happened to have and did not care to refresh my properties and save my items. The game quickly took a backseat to real life.

Flash forward four months and my mother's cancer responded amazingly to the radiation and chemo and she started to look and feel a million times better. I quickly regained the urge to play UO again and did exactly that. I rebuilt everything from scratch, thankfully still having all my characters ready to go with all their skills done. I put in a lot of work and put myself in an even better position monetarily and real estate-wise before I left. I couldnt be happier in the game and I quickly bought another large Keep in what I felt was an amazing location. I was on top of the world and having a blast. For months I was loving the feeling I felt logging into my accounts, as i'm sure most of you reading this know all too well about. I was discovering new ways to have fun in game by getting my feet wet in the BOD game and quickly made a fortune doing that. I was having so much fun and nothing could rain on my parade. Nothing except the dark, ominous clouds heading my way that my mother and I feared would never happen.

Although my mother underwent radiation and chemo her cancer was still there, albeit small she was never diagnosed as cancer free. Plenty of expensive Doctor visits ensued and we were basically drained of all money. Here is the part of this post where I feel lower than low and ashamed/embarrassed to continue on but the truth needs to be told. We were severely low on money, and for a couple months unable to pay our rent in time. Even the money I earned being her primary caregiver combined with her disability checks made it hard to cover all her bills for treatment, doctor visits, food, utilities, etc and the rent. We were not in a good spot financially and also mentally. Depression settled in for both of us during this and I had to leave UO for a second time when this all happened a few months ago. Our financial situation was so bad I had to sell my laptop, my main source of entertainment and fun, to get a few hundred bucks for our bills. We were in a bad place and thankfully a good friend I met through this server helped me and my mother out with enough money to make rent and ends meet for awhile. To this day I cannot thank you enough. You know who you are and not a day goes by where I don't think about how truly lucky I am to have met/known you for you to help out a complete stranger like you did. Karma will take care of you, I'm sure of it. I love you for caring that much about me and my situation and you did it all for nothing in return. I am forever in your debt.

As far as my mother goes, this is why I am writing all this and why I need your prayers if you're able to give them. Whether you're religious or not, please think about my mother. Her name is Michele Corrigan and 2 days ago we found out that her cancer has come back stronger and faster than ever before or ever anticipated by Doctors. She cannot undergo radiation or chemo again. Her cancer is inoperable and is spreading quicker than ever. We have only each other right now in this world, just her and I, and because of her current physical state I am unable to hold down a job because I cannot leave her alone. We are completely reliant on her disability checks each month so please pray for her to make it through and beat this rare cancer. It would mean the world to us if you even just think about her once during your day. I am not asking you to kneel down bedside or go to church, just use your mind to channel some strength her way. We are being strong but any and all help is greatly appreciated.

Tallic I do not personally know you but however I do know the struggles with illness such as cancer and have been in your shoes. There is no word to describe the pain your in right now. Just know one person from another I will be praying for your mother and you to reach some level of happiness and tranquility.

Those are amazing friends that were/are able to help you, I understand your situation and I am sorry for the pain and hard times you both have endured. I am in the process of moving back to Mi. to help / take care/spend time with my mother. Just try to stay strong and positive as much as you can, you will be in my thoughts.

This community is the greatest I've ever been a member of, and I've been a member of many. Your kind words are all very touching and the PMs I've received are as well. I appreciate each and every post and piece of advice I've been given and I thank you all for putting a smile on my face when I otherwise would be struggling to keep my sanity. UOR is an amazing place and I'm so glad I started playing here and made all the friends that I did. You guys are wonderful for keeping my mother in your prayers. Thanks to each and every one of you.

I've been through similar experiences, life is beautiful one day and a harsh bitch the next. I don't pray often but I will for you and your mom. Lot to be said for family and friends that stand by one another in the time of need. I'm sure it wasn't easy laying it all out on here.

Tallic, I never had the chance to know you in game but I'm very familiar with your situation as my mother was just diagnosed with terminal brain cancer December 20th.

My family's prayers will be with you and your family.

I do not know of your characters or you but I would like to take a bit of my time to tell you that I did pray as I read this very emotional story. You have got to be a stand up guy to tell this story to a game that revolves around ignorant people who do their best to ruin someone elses day, everyday.

I am truely sorry that this has happened to your family. My brother works as a specialist at a very advanced cancer center here in Central Florida. I hear storys of the patients and their families all the time. It is a very blessing job for my brother, as he is able to help people...and....a very heart breaking job, as he cant help some.

I am so sorry to hear about your mothers situation as well as yours. It is with great sadness that we must deal with things such as this. I have and will continue to pray for your mother as well as you. Keep fighting, praying and hoping as that is all the can be done. You both will be in my thoughts. I too have dealt with cancer and its effects that reach much much farther than just the affected host. It is apparent your mother is quite strong and I hope she will continue to be. She is blessed to have you in her life.
