I agree that PVP on this server is dead. PVP consists of who has more players on each team, ghosts scouting, and stun mage dumps. UO will never again be what it was like circa 1999 and we all just need to accept it.
PVP is not "dead" but its slow. Pking here is almost next to impossible 1v1 thats why imo you see reds "ganking" blues as for pvp you maybe right..... i personally have never ghost scouted and i was under the impression its illegal here , anyway why would you tracking works easier. Stun mage has to be ran with no mount fatigue its never to impossible to get people to stop running which i dont blame them this isnt stay on screen and dump on each other its UO, i guess i dont see your complaint about the stun mages.....
Some people have the mentality that you should be courteous or act a certain way so the population on this server will grow and so people won't quit. That's perfectly acceptable and nothing is wrong with that. Others simply couldn't care less. I hate when people quit because of something trivial, but damn if it isnt fun to completely loot someone sometimes. Other times it's not fun. It's like Amph said, Feluccia on UO is about having the choices to do whatever you want. Some people enjoy PKing, or PVPing in factions rez killing, and looting dry, others are nicer than that. Some people don't care whether or not the population increases because when it's all said and done...it is just a game. No one feels like an internet hero playing a 20 year old game, we're just bored and like having fun every once in a while and when it's not fun anymore then it's time to quit. Every time I go out on my farmer or go anywhere and have something expensive on me, I expect I'll die and lose everything. I expect I'll get PKed and everything will be gone. And that's okay because it's just pixels. It might sting for a bit because of time invested but at the end of the day how important is it over real life stuff? It isn't...at all. Amph isn't wrong. He knows full well why people rage quit after getting rez killed and harassed for so long- it's fucking demoralizing and it sucks balls. Some people don't like that. But that's UO. Some people rage quit, instead of trying to get even. You don't got to PVP to get even. I suck at PVP, so I find other ways to get back at people, and if I don't maybe the fact is theyre just better than me at this game and that's fucking okay with me. Because it's a fucking game. Have you ever watched Dakota & Shay's streaming http://www.twitch.tv/avatar_of_sosaria ? They're the nicest people ever and they get people to join the server, and as nice as they are they understand that different people enjoy different things about this game. They don't macro, they move skills up only by using them, old school style. They enjoy it. I don't but that's okay. You can't force people to think the way you do or to play the game the way you play the game. For every asshole that rez kills on here, there are a handful of other people that will get them back FOR you because they're nice. PK comes to a dungeon, I just post in IRC and several people come to help. Kermit you're sitting here insulting Amph just because he's got a different opinion than you. You don't know what he looks like, I do, I've known him in rl for 18 years, motherfucker lives at the gym. That's his thing. But you think he's fat why because he enjoys to play the game a certain way? It comes down to something really simple, if people don't like it, then go somewhere else. It's never going to change in a feluccia server. There will always be someone that likes to do mean ass shit like rez killing or horse killing in pvp/factions. I just don't see people who PK/PVP like that ever sitting down one day and going "damn...he's right I'll completely change right here and now!" It's frustrating as balls but you can't force people to play the game the way you think it should be played to ensure server (PVP) growth. You can't appease everybody. It's impossible.
Looting isn't always a matter of courtesy. One of the issues that I have been plagued with on this server is that if you don't loot people, they will go to the nearest healer (and there is a wandering healer basically every 15 tiles on this server) and res and then rejoin the fight. If you kill them as they're ressing so they don't get in the fight, you get called an asshole and demonized for res killing. I don't act like this when I die, I assume my loot is gone when I die (and it often is). There was a time when I didn't loot and res kill people, and during that time, I suffered quite a bit at the hands of people who would res and get back into the fight. I've even lost fights due to being zerged down by new resses. There's a point at which if you're outnumbered and dealing with people ressing and rejoining the fight that you will never win, because the group you're fighting will be reinforced indefinitely by the ressing dead. It's very frustrating, and one of the strongest pro-looting arguments that I can think of. I would much less inclined to not loot someone if they didn't engage in this (and didn't spend much of their time lying about how I'm a ganking griefing douchebag) but there don't seem to be many people on this server that fit that particular description.
Just out of curiosity, what do you all think is the appropriate stretch of time (if any) one should wait between ressing and rejoining a fight?
you have a good argument napo. i guess all i could say is when it is just 1 person around fighting a horde of people it would not make sense to loot and stuff, if you wanted more pvp. but from the way this thread is going it does not seem like people want more pvp. In group combat i get the purpose of looting it serves a purpose it slows your enemy from rejoining the battle. from a single person running around purpose though i feel like it deters further pvp but, this is just my opinion. thanks for posting napo i hope more people come and talk in here
The time it takes to go home and restock, in my personal opinion - at least under current conditions. I think not ressing on the field is a bit of wisdom everyone should adhere to - it removes all of the stressing that comes along with res killing and issues like that. When I die, I assume that my loot is gone and that I'll be res killed if I res. I really don't have a problem with a player I'm on good terms with ressing and looting and leaving. In a perfect world, I think it's best if people who died left the fight and waited for the next one. The winner would be the side with living people in the end. Yeah, I get what you're saying. I think it's bad form to gank a guy and loot him and kill his horse, I only participate in stuff like that if it's someone I don't like. I imagine it's tough to break into the scene as a new player or a new group, because the environment in O/C and factions both are a really tough neighborhood. There's a very high level of competition in both arenas at the moment, and the degree of feelings on both sides encourages people to really stick it to any oranges they see. I really think things would be better for the server in general if people would take it down a notch, but that's more easily said than done.
not sure if i would like to go red but, if i 1 v 1 someone and some how actually win im not going to loot and will rez if i can. not sure if i will get the same respect but i dont really mind. like kexle said at the end of the day you cant change people, they will play how they want to play. I am going to play the way i want to play
In my experience, most people don't want to fight, they want to kill people. The fighting is the means and not the goal. The people who fight for the sake of fighting don't loot. They want you back up as soon as possible so you can go again. I don't loot for different reasons: it isn't worth it. Outside of wands and weapons, I think the hourly of looting and gating a pvpers corpse is pretty bad compared to the alternatives. Even if it wasn't, sorting through stuff is a pain in the ass and at this point I'll never run out anyway (I think I have about 2500 reloads except refreshes), so who cares. Additional things have close to ZERO value to me. Also, in the big fights, unless you've preset a macro and/or dress agent to loot your corpse, you happen to die next to a wandering healer or someone is immediately available to res you, I'd say looting your corpse is a pretty slow way of getting back into the fight compared to recalling and pressing a button.
From factions point, I have no clue, as I've never been in factions. PVP is not dead here. What you are describing was mainly considered "teenage" PVP, (back in the day) Also a players concept of "true PVP", depends on when they first played UO and to some extent, what shard. PVP altered and evoled, just as other aspects of the game did. I have seen so many different "styles/play interaction" concerning PVP over the years I spent on OSI Shards, I've come to the conclusion, PVP is like anything else in the game. All depends on the individuals play stryle, that there is no "Right or One way to be a PVPer and/or PKer." Thanks
I only loot when I'm low on supplies and don't want to recall out of the fight, or if as Napo stated, to delay an enemy team member from rejoining a fight. As for horse killing, I find there's few things more satisfying then crushing your enemies, then blasting their faction mounts into the ground. That being said, most people we fight these days ride ethereal mounts .
I'm with Cleediss, I'm not looking for no loot, no grief, field duels. Just hoping for folks that fight for a reason other then fucking someone over as hard as they can. That's some messed up shit, full on sadism, and I'm not saying that as some sort of insult, I'm entirely serious. The worse you treat your opponents, the less likely you are to ever see them on the field again. I loot, and I don't always gate people out, but what do you have to gain from rezz killing and killing someones pets other then some sort of twisted sadist shit.
I understand pking (reds gotta feed their families too right?) but res killing and horse killing seems to me to be overkill (see what I did there ). But, it's the game, and has been stated before, people do that. I don't see the fun in it but it happens.
My humble PK opinion: Righty! Res killing is the most stupid thing a PK can do. It has no purpose, except getting stupid counts. My suggestion: if that happens to you, give him a count! +8h ingame to drop it... Sweet revenge. Honestly? I only kill horses when the player is really annoying. PKing is part of the game. If you died, just accept and embrace it. Don't be annoying and chances are the PK will be nice to you. Maybe ress and gate!
