How does trust get established on this server when people can have multiple accounts? For example when I played eve we had to share API keys and whatnot to help prove that are not spies. Does UO R have any protocol?
Paranoia begets paranoia. Trust begets trust. But here's the key: you dont have to trust a complete stranger with your house key and the passcodes to all your stock accounts. A lot of guild here have you run around with them first to get a sense of your playstyle. Personally, I prefer not to know who others' alts are unless they feel it necessary to make them known. Also I think it's better to establish a credible forum account and allow others to recognize you from that. Just some thoughts from a grey wizard.
I really do appreciate that other like minded people are on this server but this is a fel uo server, and you can't really trust any one you can't physically punch in the face for screwing you over lol. Don't forget the long con was a widely used tactic from day one in uo.
If only that were true. It seems as though what people tend to trust is: -Fight, before running. -Don't "shitpost". -Have 'fun'.
Oh! and one side note.. never trust answers given in IRC, unless they're followed by a site link. Or this may happen to you. fuckers.
Most people on this shard are decent, even many of the pk's. Do you want to share personal things with people on this server, or any server for that matter? Probably not, unless its something you know couldn't ever be used against you in any way. Sometimes there is forum drama where someone will eventually get mad at someone else and say something like "you said this on voice in private and I'm going to tell everyone" and threaten to air dirty laundry as retaliation. As far as guilds go, assume everyone has their full 15 chars and just keep tabs on what you hear or see. Generally if you listen in irc or observe you can usually figure out who's who. If you're going for strict guild recruitment, never trust someone who randomly runs up to you asking to "can i join guild plz"... I'd imagine most guilds here have had one of those people who try to join to loot the armory or kill other guildies. NEVER friend anyone to your main house unless you know them personally or something, or all your valuables are on lockdown if you must. To sum it up, just be careful who you let into your inner circle and what you share with them, and get acquainted with good house security practices.
I don't have anyone that I routinely "play" the game with. I most certainly won't guild (I did once for about 3 days... I have since deleted the character).
You know... I've just had the greatest idea for a VoP quest book that this server deserves. * I've done a practice run with Quenby... and Quenby has taken the quest out into the world.. I will have to speak to the wizard.. but our testing of the quest has proven to be a success thus far! I cannot wait until the quest runs into a few of you. *eyes paddy and wylwrk*
When I grouped up with my former group about a year ago, they had me screenshot my character screens due to paranoia of infiltration. The joke is on them! After a year of spending sometimes hours a day in voice and playing together for the better part of a year, giving up rares in instance runs, sharing info, pking, giving away items that others needed, etc... one of them (who I didn't recognize at the time) attacked my thief and got g whacked since I wasn't perma. Without even sending me a PM, I was booted from the group, banned from voice, and ostracized.... all over a shitty silver spear that I trash barreled... THE LONG CON! Groups are fun!
