That would most likely be put to community vote. But on a basic level it would be any item contained on a player or in their bank on an account not accessed in 90 days. And yes this would result in that effect on rare items, however on UO:R we are much more strict than other free shards or even OSI on these items. We also will always default to rewarding our active players than being concerned with protecting the value of items an inactive player has stored in their bank. If you want your items to retain their value? Stay active.
Awesome and awesome, could not agree more. And of course, I love all of the data-nerd type posts here. Fascinating stuff.
Meeeeh I wouldn't like to see limited titles for sale. I like the idea with purchasing the citizenship of a town for a price. The price should be equal for all towns though - this goes a bit along with the "UO Hometown" poll I put up in the "Other" forum. I see the price for such a citizenship significantly lower though - maybe 100k per char. That's still 1.5 mil if you want all you chars to be citizens. But you can support the town of your choice by contributing further after becoming a citizen. Supply the towns treasurer with items that suit the town to gain additional reputation in that town and advance to a higher title. But only count a certain amount of contribution per day - like gaining compassion with escorts. You have to contribute small amounts over several days to advance to higher titles. Some suggestions for contributions accepted in a particular town: Minoc - Ingots, Ore Yew - Logs, Boards Vesper - Gold Serpent's Hold - Any kind of melee weapon Jhelom - Any kind of leather armor Occlo - Newbie Heads ... just joking ... food type items maybe Moonglow - books, scrolls, maps (completed Tmaps) Trinsic - Any kind of metal armor Nujel'm - Alcohol (ale and stuff) Buc's Den - MIB pre-loot Skara Brae - archery weapon and arrow+bolts Magincia - jewelery Cove - Orc masks Britain - Magic Wands & Murderer body parts Wind - Regs
This is intriguing. Not only does it create a one time gold sink, but also a perpetual sink by donating items to your city. I would love to see donated weapons or armors appear in that city's chest and npc loot. If that were the case I would absolutely drop vanq hallys and slayer weapons in random towns. I favor anything that increases travel and exploration.
I think I made a similar comment in the citizenship thread, but a city beautification fund would be interesting. If donations dip too low, the cities roads start to look crumbly and ugly, paint starts to peel, the place looks like its going to poop. If donations are high, there's all kinds of pretty decor lining the streets.
Careful; pictures like that are what people link to when they show the reason we're all here instead of other more "custom" shards.
The simpler we keep this proposal the higher the chances it will be considered I would love to be Wodan, Noble Citizen of Minoc !
Hey all. This is a topic that I have thought a lot about since starting here. I initially thought that a property tax would be a good way to pull money from the economy However, I now have to agree with Gideon that it may end up driving people away due to a constant need to earn money or risk losing assets (pertains only to the most casual players). The citizenship ideas, while requiring a lot more investment from the staff, is an awesome idea. I like the idea of a rares vendor but at some point, with all the money that's available, the rares wouldn't be that rare anymore - unless the rares change. Instead, how about a rares lottery? Maybe it's a casino where you have a small chance to win a rare, or some gold, or even a nice weapon/armor piece. People love to gamble if the rewards are enticing enough and I don't think our player base would be any exception. The alternative to fixing the gold problem is to shore up the places where gold is flooding into the world. Gold from monsters and BODs could probably be lowered a little bit. Or, maybe gold could be made slightly heavier so it takes more trips to farm the same amount. Just some ideas to toss into the pot.
1,000,000 gold for a soulstone? Used to store and retrieve 1 skill or transfer it to another character... NOT era accurate or anything close to it but it would be a good gold sink that people may use. Make them so you cannot lock them down or must store them in a bank box only. Just so we don't have to look at the god awful ugly things.
talking about gold, im a new player, ad it seems damnright impossible to me to gm my chars without any starting funds (except 1000g) so what have i done, i started chopping tress for boards, i've sold 10k boards after a few days for 30k and used all that money to raise magery/resist on a char, wich brought me to 78 magery 72 resist... so now im chopping again cause im flat broke to sell another 10k boards, but it's rlly boring, anyone else got some tips to make some starter gold? i'd like to buy regs to train and buy my own small house... any ideas are more then welcome, as i dont think hitting shame killing earth ele's will be evenly profitable then chopping boards considering pk's and bank runs for loot dropping... pls gimme some tips
I'm training a Lumberjack and a Miner, not so much for income but for Axe Damage and smelting purposes, respectively, and I think the miner makes a lot more money per time than the lumberjacker. Ingots sell really well on this shard. I'm a PvMer at heart though, not a crafter, so as far as dungeon locations go, Shame Level 1 seems like a decent place. I think Silver is the most common Slayer weapon, so if you can pick up a silver weapon, maybe going to Deceit would be the best farming location. Frankly, the Britain Graveyard is decent too. Zombies die fast and have like 50 gold on them. You could recall between a couple of town graveyards (when you kill all the spawn at one, more to another) and make a decent rate just killing that stuff, with low risk of dying to the monsters or PKs.
I macro'd Provocation to the mid 70s at moonglow zoo and then I farmed Compassion Desert for a couple K. Is it as fast as chopping boards, dunno. I would guess not. But it's more fun If I were starting brand new, however, I would get going on three tailors immediately. You can gather/create cloth for free and its a relatively cheap skill to get to 99+. Once you're there, start collecting BODs. There are many buyers out there, and a lot of people will buy them for 2-4K a pop, let alone any rare pieces you come across.
@Dalavar thats sounds like a plan im gona try the graveyard thing and c how my rate is /hour dont have any silver gear yet but deceit was my pref. place back on Osi so that might be a plan, better finish my dexer then first @basoosh i have macrooed a bard provo/peace music but thats all he has from skills up untill now, i need some magery on that one to get around
Guard zone house deeds at 100x normal deed cost. 4.38M for a small and rises from there. Guard zone rental housing... Hrm. Or do them to an ore-color tint. Valorite Fortress anyone? As I understand it, all the art assets are on the client side. So you can make any custom assets you want as long as they're just another color version of all the other items already in the game. Guard bribery? Pay 1M gold and all the guards in the town go on strike for one UO day (suspended guard whacking)? Regards, Wil
I had one last comment to leave here, regarding the figures that Chris posted. It may in fact be that there are enough natural gold sinks and less in circulation than it seems. However, adding more sinks would inspire people to get out and hunt more often. My original post was never intended to lead to a conversation about inflation, but rather motivating players to populate dungeons.
Townbook: a blessed runebook with a single fixed rune (randomly near the center of the town where it was bought) and capable of holding only one charge at a time. So you can get back to town after being slaughtered and rezzed BEFORE you have the 200 platinum to bless a regular runebook.
Basements. For 10M gold, staff will take an unused part of the map and dig you a basement (kind of like new player dungeon), and then apply a ladder or a set of "stairs" in your house that take you to that area. For another 20M gold you can get a second level to the basement and for 40M a third. Select your basement from a set of templates. It comes with its own set of lockdowns and secures. That small house you see... might hold a secret lair.
Love it. I always thought a small tower is more than enough for almost anyone but with the basement idea, even a small will be enough. If this were to get added it should only happen after there is literally no housing left on the shard and everything is 5x deed to start. For 100 million gold pieces your character can turn into an elf!
For 100M gold, a character can depose Lord British, replacing him with the character's avatar. At least for a couple of months until there's a shard-wide quest event to bring low the usurper...
