Not sure I believe that. Buckler is lighter and should have more attempts to parry, just like a kryss gets more swings in a given time than a halberd.
Assume you "try" to block every hit. The small and light buckler is successful more often than the heavy slow buckler heater. So, size/weight is thematically involved. To add another layer to the process in which those characteristics have another impact on the success rates seems like extra effort and confusing math with no aesthetic gain.
There is only one kind of buckler, short of ore type and magic properties. wtf you talkin bout Willis?
The characteristics (should) have nothing at all to do with success rates, just attempt rates. Success should be based entirely on your skill in Parry. Maybe I'm crazy, but that makes sense to me.
Did you update the tables? I think i did not read it carefully enought All right! So i am with you. Block rate should only depend on shild type. Damage blocked should only depend on AR Thats all your formulas says. Thats the change which is needed. I hope to see this in next patch This would be much more fun with any parry-skilled char. Currently i think its just a waste skill!
Despite the river of Dalavar tears there, Parry and shields are VERY effective. They are not a god send by any means, but I can solo Ogre Lords on my Parry Macer. It could be better, but it's certainly not a waste of time.
If Dalavars calculations of current functionallity of parry skill are right - it may be somewhat effective but not very effective. I can solo a ogre lord also without parrying. Just run if you had bad luck on being hit a few spots. A new char can solo ogre lord if you have enough time What i like to see is some divergency in shields and the usefulness of magic shields. This means in practise: A full plated warrior with great magic AR and the right shield should be able to "tank" with crossheal a balron - maybe also an ancient wyrm - thats not era accurate but history perfected. Not the tamers are the ones that kill the ancient dragons in fantasy storys but the legendary knights
I was going to say the same thing. Out of curiosity, I just solo'ed one on my non-parry macer. GM ringmail and a club of power. Seriously. Had to back off twice to heal, but if I had better armor I suspect that wouldn't have been needed. As for crosshealing and tanking an Ancient Wyrm or Balron, I'm not sure. Ancient Wyrm in particular has poison claws, so if you get poisoned at the wrong time, you're going down.
Does anybody know if this was ever changed? I really dug my parry warrior back in the day, this makes me concerned its not too worth it. Any updates on parry?
