    Hello.

One thing i think could have a little tweak is the speed a pet follows us. I don't know about the other pets since i've had none, but pack horses and horses cant keep up with a character running on foot. They stay behind, and if we get away enough they will stop following and wonder off.
If they are freshly taken out of the stable they will keep up with the character running on a horse. That fast.

So one of them is not working correctly. And i strongly hope its the first situation. Its true that the game isn't supposed to be very easy for a starting character, but gathering folks have to go at a slow pace waiting for they pack horse. Its a horse. At least it should be able to keep up with a character on foot.

Sorry if this was already discussed, i did perform a search and got nothing.

I have just started playing UO with this being my first server. In my experience I find that most of my tames I have to micro-manage to keep them following me. I also find while on foot I can outrun my tames, which is also not very realistic. I do not think I can outrun a bear or wolf, let alone many creatures... So how is it that I can outrun my tames?

Pets should certainly keep up with someone on foot. I think their follow speed should actually be the same as someone "walking" with a mount.

The big problem I have is that when some things get 5-6 tiles away, they just stop, and they are out of range so you cant "all follow" them anymore. If the thing is on screen, it should still be in follow mode with me, and listen to my commands at a reasonable distance..

It would certainly be more convenient if pack animals (and other pets) could keep up better. As to the realism of the pack horse and llama not keeping up, I find no issues given personal experience. I've traveled with laden pack mules and burros and unless given a favorable environment (grade and/or elevation) will absolutely not keep up with a human in reasonable physical fitness particularly over distance. I think people in general don't give the human body the credit it deserves. In the grand scheme of things we're kinda champions of travel over time.

    Thank you Godric.

Try saying "all follow me" as compared to "all come." I've noticed that the pet following speed when you use 'all come' is much slower. I can run at full speed mounted with even a leopard (just did this yesterday), and when using the follow me command it kept up with me pretty well.

After testing this it works just great. The difference is huge.

I don't know if this works for pack horses or not, but for dragons 'all follow me' is sufficient to keep up with you on foot. 'All guard me' is even faster, and can nearly keep up with full horse LPB 20 ping speed.

This is what I've noticed as well. All guard me seems to attain the fastest speed. My dragons and will keep up with me at full speed on a mount if they are guarding me.

I just want bonded dead pets to be faster. So frustrating :(

Follow me and guard me speeds are the same. All come is probably about half that speed.

Eh, you sure? From my experience with dragons here, they will 'teleport' short distances to keep up with you while in guard mode, but don't do it in follow mode.

I'm 100% positive that my dragons and mare are considerably faster while guarding me as opposed to just following me.

Funny... I am certain that they 'teleport' in follow mode. Did not know they did so in guard mode. We all have our idiosyncrasies of how we play, amusingly.

Yeah pets in guard mode are much faster than follow. Use guard mode on a pack horse and it will move very fast (I have tried it). Running at full speed on a horse is still a little bit fast for the animal in tow to keep up, but it's close enough.

Pet follow speed seems a lot faster here then most places i've played. But I have to agree with you, pets stopping while still on screen is an issue.

We're talking strictly 800x600 here, right?

No, I play at the maximum possible resolution so I can still see the "active" areas where the server is sending me data. Go tame a snow leopard or something, tell it to follow you, then walk somewhere, especially when they are in a group, one will undoubtedly get behind the others and once it's a few tiles away, it forgets you exist and just sits there.

Oh, I know the results you are all talking about, I'm just curious what you are basing your 'on screen' reference points as.
It would seem to me that when I outrun my tames by more than the maximum 'normal' game play area of 800x600, is when they tend to lose track of me.
What I end up doing is skipping a second here and there to give them time to tele-walk up to me, which I think was the term used historically to describe the travel appearance of things like silver serpents.

So I do a sort of run/break/run pattern and everything stays with me, unless one gets clipped on an obstacle.

This was definitely not the case on the last shard where running with followers was just not happening at all (that I recall), let alone on mount.

Yeah but you can't even walk with some followers on foot here.
