Screw you and the llama you rode in on. I hope my goods are more valuable to you than they were to me.

I had *just* convinced my friend to come back to UO after trying to tell him that UOR wasn't like the other shards. Thanks much for proving me wrong. Sad, sad sad.

Thanks... I did pretty much all I could, I thought. Wall of tables, etc.

What perplexes me is that I was in the house when it happened, and so would have the log. The only way they could have gotten all the stuff out is if they gated out (there were 15,000 boards in there, a thousand fire elemental scrolls, and other things that can't just "walk away"). My log only shows one gate out, and looking at the 'toon that did it, he was a glorious lord tamer so I can't believe it was something that he would do.

The other characters that wandered by and showed up multiple times in my log are:
    Olivia
    Trogdor
    Tasbur
    Anarchy

But none of them gated. How else would someone be able to drag... oh, I think I know now.

It would have taken multiple people to do it. One sneaked by me at some point, hid, and I never detected, then somehow snuck again when I ran my table move. But still, it would have required multiple people to have snuck by; else, they couldn't have opened the front door to let the next one in. I just don't see how else they did it.

Really the only thing that I'm gonna miss is my T-map rune library. It took six bloody hours to build. Everything else was just "stuff".

Now I gotta build it all over again.

...AND the llama you rode in on, you mongbat offal son of a gargoyle!!

Hi Ferret, sorry to hear that.
    Always use detect hidden.
I got looted for much more stuff in the past :/ - before I rejoined the shard.
Well, think I forgot to lock the door - so how say it? My fault? Basically.

Do you have a house near cove? Just wonder why my char name pops up. I was not involved in it.
Seems you did not loose that much. Keep going!
I had already some uninvited visitors in my house - but well, if gating from the house out again: my fault.

Good morning, Anarchy -- aye, I have the Villa that is just northeast of Cove's gates. Bought it last month, Thanks for the warm thoughts.

I'm over it now -- it's just a little frustrating that it took almost six months to convince my friend to come back; the very reason he didn't want to come back was because he didn't want to have to deal with griefers, pks, or other Felucca mischief. I bought 750 MIBs to bring him back, since that's his favorite part of UO. I'm just glad the looter(s) didn't touch either my L1 T-map collection nor the MIB collection. If that had happened, I'd have been way way more aggravated.

So, I guess a "thank you" is in order that the looters didn't dry-loot me and grabbed only replaceable materials.

Sorry that happened to ya but this is a Fel dedicated server. It happens to everyone, even the vets. I wouldn't consider this griefing though or anything, just part of a class in the game. Take it as a valuable lesson and strengthen that security! As for your friend not wanting to join because of the things you stated. That's what makes the game what it is! The thrill, and risk is what makes this game fun!

not that bad if they left something.

So we are neighbors. I own the shop just north of your villa - if its the one directly at the moongate?
And have a small tower nearby - so I am around a lot - thats just what I wondered about why my name was in your log ;)

I must agree to the earlier statements: Its part of the kick that makes this game much more fun than any other. You can really loose stuff if you do it wrong.
Keep really valueable things in your bank - thats what I lately learned when someone tried to loot my house by jump in the gate. Since then I am more careful.

I'm quite glad you appear to be taking your looting "in stride" and am working to get past it. Unfortunately this era encourages house looting so vigilance is required against break-ins. I strongly recommend making an enter macro that does everything for you: unlock door, open door, lock door, walk through, close door, and detect hidden. If you do it right and pay attention, you can never get broken into. Just make sure you're using the latest Razor version so your client doesn't get glitched.

My other piece of advice is to always keep your locked down chests behind a secondary locked door. That's what I do. So if someone get's into my common area, they still can't get to the lootable chests. Plus I have open macros for interior doors. So to get to my secured area, they have to somehow survive two detect checks.

Heh. That is precisely what I did last night after I discovered it, since I had no way of knowing whether they could still be getting in or not. I dragged all the valuables up to the bedroom vault with a second locked door, then added another lockdown wall in the accessway. I'll need two Razor macros to get to my own belongings, but it'll be worth it in the long run.

I also added the autodetect after my house entry macro, and then added a "Say I Ban Thee (wait for target) (target nearest grey)" at the very end of it. If someone follows me in, they'll be insta-banned.

Sorry to hear about your loss @The Ferret of Baja but glad to see you're taking it well enough as well as using the experience to harden your security with lessons learned.

    Here's a pro-tip:

Create one macro (ran by a hotkey) with a [where command. Then have a series of "IF" statements that start other macros (one for each door).

If you want my macro to look at for some help, let me know.

Ah. Never fun to lose stuff!

I'd just like to clarify the use of the word "griefing".

It's an over (and incorrectly) used word by a lot of people here and elsewhere.
Griefing is when the person performing the action is doing so with the intent to cause grief. Using intended mechanics to gain an advantage is not griefing.

    Examples of griefing:

-Repeatedly killing someone for no benefit, ie. Killing deathrobe char over and over.

-Blocking someone in so that their only option is to use help-stuck.

-Luring monsters on to an afk character with no intent to loot or trick them in some manner to your benefit.

    Example of legitimate gameplay:

-Taking advantage of a weakness in house security and looting.

-Killing a character for loot, kill count, red status or fun.

    -Stealing item(s) from someones pack.

If griefing were simply whenever someone felt grief, every noob that got PK'd or stolen from would be able to cry and sulk and use that word.
Which as we know just isn't the case!

Again, no fun you got looted. I hope your friend does play, risk vs reward is a large reason we're all here. Else we would all be playing on trammel, or wow, or some single player no risk easy mode game :)

I felt much grief when you got that recall off, when I was hitting you with a hammer.....

I was actually glad someone was lurking outside my house, bring some life to my valley....

Missed your wide open door after that gate by 2 steps :p

Heh. Recall out between swings, huzzah!

I also live in Cove and am sorry to hear about your loss. Although Cove has always been a quiet place, I guess this is the price one pays for a moongate. I am glad you are taking it as a learning experience and are moving beyond it. I also hope your friend decides to play in this server. Most people here are nice. If they took anything I can craft for you please let me know and I'll be happy to make it for you free of charge.

Very sorry to hear about this tragedy Ferret.
Have you posted notice in town?
Maybe someone has a snippet of information?
    Now my curiousity grows...
What group of bandits might pull off such a shadow maneuver?
::looks around to see many eyes glaring at her::
no. no no no no nooo.
we would never be so sneaky!
We'd barge right in, hatchets in hand
