I wanted to say thank you to Ouroboros and Manny for their kindness in welcoming me as a newer player. They have both been kind, generous and patient with an old OSI player from the 90's.

Also a kind shout out to whoever plays Saci for returning the (very nice) stuff (donated by Manny) that he expertly stole from me after I asked politely to have it returned. He even gave me more (likely stolen) swag.

UO has been like the most pleasant infection I've ever had. After all this time, I just can't quite clear it out of my system, and it's because of players like these that I feel at home in Sosaria.

    Thank you all.

It's a hard game to recreate and we always seem to come back to it. It's 2018 and this server is what we spend our time doing for fun. Kinda crazy! welcome to the shard bud!

My 10 year old daughter has been watching me play this week and has been begging to play.

I finally relented and let her play my dexxer. She enjoyed walking around town to get used to the controls. Then she asked for her own character. I wondered if she would want to be a bard, a mage or a steel slinger.

I make her char by cranking strength to 60 and giving her 50/50 magery fencing as I didn't want her to die to bunnies like her dad did back in '96.

So what does she do? She immediately finds the library in Ocllo, reads a book from the shelf, and asks if she can write a book too in the game.

I get her to a scribe, teach her "vendor buy" and help her buy a blank book. She proceeds to write what is essentially a yelp review of Ocllo and leave it by the Ocllo bank.

She went to bed still excitedly talking about how "[she] is a 'published' author".

UO: you make your own story. My daughter made one I never would have imagined. Thank you for letting her share it with me.

Hey just to let you know if she is having fun playing Telamon aka Chris allows for 3 accounts per person, so might be worth it set her up on her own account and let her really have fun in the young program, lets her learn the game in a safer way. If it's her account too doesn't eat up her young hours with you playing

    Welcome to UOR.

    Great story.

As mentioned you could make an acct for her to use or a toon on a different acct.

Which would allow you to play together.

    Good luck.

    Great posts @Helicobacter !

My daughter is 3yrs old and likes to sit on my lap while I play.

She tells me to find monsters and “make them flat.”

My 2 year old daughter likes to climb in my lap and then proceed to smash any key or mouse click she can reach. I swear she is doing it on purpose to mess things up

Gosh I love my little monster.

My son has been playing since six, they pick it up amazingly well at young ages. My other one is five and has great knowledge of UO but knows they can't play until six.*

They do 'play UO' around the house and garden loads though "Flamestrike" "Greater Heal" "Ahhhh I have no mandrake" as they run around wizarding at each other.

It's great, and I'm really thankful to Chris for providing a place where I feel they can play at such a young age (though of course it has its "oooh don't read what that guy's saying" moments.)

Really nice to read so many posts of others who are training up the next generation of pixel nerds.

*I figure once they're at school they already know all the swear words they might encounter in UO, we just keep up the parent-child charade of neither of us ever using them.

Don't forget UO has a client side built in word filter. It you spend one evening thinking up all the curse words and their various spellings, you could get most of them.

Inform the young one that they have a potentially successful business model to build upon.

You can also request young to be permanent on a player if they are a child.

    You guys are awesome.

The book was left in the Ocllo library desk. If it hasn't degraded (unlikely), it will be there.

I will let her know that not only is she a published author, but there is also a demand for her books.

I'll have to teach her moongates next so she can review more towns. I'll have her keep the original book in her bank and teach her how to inscribe a copy. Her name is Emmie, so if you see her, please hit her up for a copy of one of her guides.

    Thanks again.

But, but... The book! If she left it there it would just have vanished! We must have this great guide tome of Ocllo!
