I would like to congratulate @Chris for what I see as the perfect balance between tram and fel this Halloween event. Players are able to escape easily in the instance but they still have to farm the gy for the gate. I think it’s fair to all play styles for the most part!
I've been disappointed. There's no doubt Chris dedicated a lot of time and energy and the finished product is great for the health of the shard. I'm sure it's been fun and a really nice balance like you described if you have a tamer and/or a bard dexxer. I have neither. The only time I tried Night of Horrors I was on my bard mage and wasn't able to do much despite only dying once. My full spellbook also vanished instead of going into my bank box. I haven't really set foot in a graveyard. I randomly killed a mongbat vampire and got a gate, went in, couldn't kill anything, died, and haven't set foot in the instance since. Hopefully Christmas is better.
I second this, also great job to @Treasureman who put a great deal of work into the new dungeon as well. Wish I had more time to fully explore the zone but what I'v seen is amazing and provides some awesome PvM. @Zershii try a different built maybe, most stuff in the outer ring of the new dungeon can be killed by a simple parry dexxer if you single it out. I recommend at least trying a provo/dexxer for next years NoH & NoH2 dungeon.
I agree, the event is very satisfactory! Including the Leave Instance button is what kept the newbs enjoying this event with all of the grief + dry looting PKs. The monsters are fun and challenging for a bard dexxer, which I completed 1 day before this event and never played the class before. The event provided easy mobs for learning on and difficult for challenging what I know. Very solid. I bet you could finish a Bard Dexxer before the end of the event bud. Or at least get far along enough to be able to join a group of players and successfully hunt and survive. The event is designed for bard Dexxers I hear, but of course the players who have 3 tamers will always be the ones doing best and not dying ect. My only disappointment is how some players feel ok with themselves by ruining other players fun. Beyond the point of just having fun but actually trying to ruin your time here any time they see you. But hey I guess that's in every version of UO lol. Good event. Foul griefers.
I don't like some of the rewards. +2 taming bustier? Wtf?! Apart from that, I appreciate the high amount of design work that has gone into the new instance and feel at the same time that the work could have been used better. It caters very much for the hardcore event PvMers and ignores the normal everyday overworld/dungeon PvMers that play the rest of the year. I hate it, that you are somehow forced to play during a few weeks in the year if you don't want to miss out on high end stuff (or buy it for ALOT money). And with high end stuff, I don't mean high end trammel. I don't care about optics of pixels. It's more about the functionality type pixels that are actually very important (e.g. the +2 taming bustier, or the +20 stealthing boots, etc).
Gotta agree with SavageRandy - it's been a super cool event. This is my holiday event since joining this server, and it's been a ton of fun. It just breaks my heart that City of the Dead is going to stop at some point! The NoH event is chaotic in the best way possible - I wish I had time to join a few more of them (stupid RL getting in the way of UO again!). Thanks again @Chris for all your hard work. I joined this server after having not played UO in over 15 years fully expecting to enjoy a little bit of nostalgia before getting bored and going onto something else, and really didn't expect to still be playing 6 months later. Despite not having as much playtime as I would like, I don't foresee myself spending any of my game time on any other game for the foreseeable future. Can't wait to see the rest of the holiday events!
Maybe we'll see a custom Thanksgiving instance? I can see it now... The Turkey Lurkey Den of Doom You enter the gate and land in a pile of mashed taters.. covered on gravy you hear terrifying sounds echoing down the halls. Smells nice though... the purest pumpkin spice floats about like a neurobond perfume. The calm is quickly dashed to the side as you hear a rustling mass slithering your way... It's a mega-turkey fused with a silver serpent! It's a damn SILVER TURKENT!! Run fool... RUN!
Yeah you'd probably have a better time using a dexer. And it isn't always easy at all to get into the depths of the NoH dungeon, even with a tamer. Your dragons get aggro on everything along the way and if you just keep moving you risk dragging too much behind you and getting overwhelmed. I've found that going with a group including at least one tamer and a few provo characters to provo "low end" stuff on the way to the bigger stuff works really well. But never fear! Christmas will be very good for your bard mage. But even before that we have Thanksgiving. For Xmas, put tracking on your character and then get a bunch of energy vortex scrolls (recommended) or just cast energy vortex at all the non-casting MOBs and you should have a blast.
At first I had my hesitations about it because of the dexer pigeonhole, but I've grown to really love it. I fully agree regarding the nice fel / tram balance that let's folks properly get away from pks if they want to forfeit the rest of their time. I also like the cool design and variety of stuff going on in the whole city. Plus dexers need some love, and this is an event that really let's them shine. My one personal complaint is that we haven't (yet?) seen a proper warhorse come from this event. Would be cool to have some standard warhorses in good hues.
Well Zershii, monsters in instance are at war. You can lure gravediggers, morticians, vampiers, pirats and there minions to undead skeletons and zombies on the rcorridor and they fight each other without provo. Just be sure to pickup HC from corps if you havent dealt most damage. Noh is more on working thogether, you can heal fighters, or try with summened creaturs if you have mage. If you have smith, they allways get good tips after event for making weps. I allways tip my armsdealer with 25% of HC i get.
My only complaint is not enough people were out there this year taking advantage of this sweet event with great rare drops. Shame!
I am excited by the sign that reads "thieves guild" on one of the dead end branches. Hoping for some cool new content down that alley one of these years.
Hmm blues this year had a macro that instantly took them out of the dungeon creating a almost 0%risk. While there may have been 0 incrntives to kill reds there was also a way to farm safely without fear of losing your stuff.
Blade spirit works wonders in certain areas and bosses. @abox tears up frank area with a bard/mage better then dexers or a tamer "s". Kills the boss almost twice in 24min
