Ways to improve RP on the server?

I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas on this. I was reading on the old days of osi like on Atlantic when there were RP town councils, RP guilds and so on. I know people have their own play styles and stuff, some just like to farm, pk, but some of the most fun I've had was RP'ing with people, even if they thought I was crazy. I'd make it seem like THEY were crazy!

Maybe some new players out there have some ideas but just don't have the funds yet.... talk to me, let's see what ya got. If it's a good idea I would be willing to help out with funds if it's a serious project and you can prove you can get people behind it, and you aren't a flash in the pan player who flames out after a month.

Also.... I'm thinking about dropping some money randomly on people I find running around Ocllo with nice, "RP-ish" names, maybe some bonus cash for having a nice profile! Yes, that thing right here:



that you can click on and type out your character's story or background, or a description of what your character looks like. I'll be checking!

Guild leaders - get out there and recruit! Ocllo is swarming with orphan noobs just waiting to be adopted to find their forever guild homes. I think being involved in guilds helps player retention too.

Anyone have any ideas? Let's be serious and yes we know the state of RP is sorry here, but we're wanting constructive talk up in here!

Honestly I think the biggest boost to the RP community here would be an active Seer/GM/Staff member to help run all size events on a constant basis.

Yes we can argue that the best RP is strictly between players, but with the added bonus of staff assistance for even a minor treck through the woods or dungeon can add the pop the shard needs to attract some serious players.

Adventurers head out into a dungeon on an RP style adventure, staff gets hint of it because they know where/when/who to watch out for, then follows and adds to the storyline with extra spawn, random mini boss, etc...word gets around about the fun and more people start to participate.

The overall best time I have ever had in UO was during the Virtue wars here, and hell I didn't even make most of the events, but participating through the forums and making a few of the in-game events was rediculously fun. And that all started out as something small and snowballed into months of fun with some staff help.

Sadly my playtime has been limited lately, but there is light on the horizon, and when that happens I will indeed be looking to help out in boosting the RP community here!

I have a couple Characters that i kinda roll play and have profiles :

The virtue wars were pretty awesome @Cero . I wish we had more long term storylines going on. I think it would go a long way.

Sometimes I want to do events but when it's down to the wire and I gotta decide if I want to do it.... I'm like eh, screw it.... I don't feel like doing this!

Tavern nights were fun when @Kizama ran his I believe. I made a tavern and have yet to do an event, but would be willing to have others host events there. Maybe I'm just too cantankerous to run events anymore..

The Bloodclan Orcs are one of my favorite RP clans, they are headed to Shards of Aria based on my email invite to join (yeah I been through the rites). We RPed Orcs in the fort before there were even masks to stop the mob aggro.. I was also in a pirate clan on a RunUO sever long ago... that was fun. I will usually play along to whatever RPing character I meet... met some cool pirates in Occllo just other night... showed one my "shaft"...

Bloodclan had a presence here at one time but they sort of vanished. Bloodrock Clan has a presence here and is in the process of rebuilding but theres a few of us still running around. @PaddyOBrien Did Kizama have the Howling Sausage Tavern? Those were fun nights (especially when us orcs were around)

Yes that was him, it was a fun place. I have a tavern but lack the time and dedication to run regular hours, but I wish some new players interested in RP would give it a shot.

I agree a Seer/GM staff member would help enrich some aspects but it is not the prime solution. I would like to say though more importantly would be to institute a formal council and one to which a GM seer would answer to. This way perhaps the burden of Seership could both be shared and contained. The council would not all have to be in the same guild as it would primarily consist of our avatars real life persons coming together as a brain trust and power check. this way as well, the GM Seer would not necessarily have to relinquish all in game accounts and could rotate as part of adventures.

My main caution with having only 1 player with this is that it would have to be somebody extremely reserved and it essentially removes that person from the player pool. Also The GM would have to keep completely impartial. @Chris has to put a great deal of trust in the past into others by giving this power and even if used to intervene with good intentions (i.e. preserve a story line, protect a rare item being shared by somebody) it is still a breech of authority.

I would be willing to write up a council charter if there are enough interested parties.


in closing remember that there are many more things that we can do without GM power. These could also benefit greatly by a combined group effort.

Yes. I have something similar in mind, only it wouldn't be strictly bound to in-game interactions only.

I would think a private Forum board would be best i think. we could post ideas for events, discuss, and plan before kicking off publicly.

As school ends and my play time gets to pick back up I plan on dropping some "adventure" bags on some monsters, as well as try and get some hunting parties together on my nights off. Let's see what we can stir up!!
