    I come before the fantastic player base of UO: Renaissance today to propose the idea of a ranked/ladder type system that is player controlled and player driven.


    I know that there are many faces, old and new, that are looking for genuine and fun team based player vs player concepts that is in a fun, exciting, and evolving environment. I believe that with all the talks I have had with many faces recently that we are stumbling onto a great idea.

    Proposed is the following concept open to player and staff review. This thread welcomes all suggestions and lets make something amazing for like minded players.


    The idea is a simple concept. A lot of the rankings and ladder system is similar to a “clan-ladder” type system that existed in the late 90s / early 00’s for Counterstrike and the original Rainbow Six’s. For anyone not doing dial up modem FPS back in the day, it essentially was a method for guilds/clans to build their own roster, and play at their own free will versus competing teams. Guilds/Groups will have their own recognition, and their Wins/Loses will be recorded, Winning percentage, and points awarded will be tracked.


    The old clan-ladder site doesn’t seem to exist any longer (it’s only been like 24 years), but basically we need a way to make a system that allows players to meet and skirmish, afterwards both of their sheets will be updated by the guild’s/group’s representatives recording the results of the match. Typically 24 hours was allowed to record your win or loss, and if only one participant records their’s, that result will count and it would be noted that the other side did not, and if issues arise the community will police itself and weed out issues with that group.


    There will be as many fights as you wish to have, and as often as you wish to have. There probably will need to be some way to regulate how many times you can score from a group per day, I imagine something like 3 ranked matches per day between the two same teams should be fine. And at the end of the season (probably like every other month) when the season ends, those who qualify (probably like 10 matches minimum in that time period) will be allowed entry to a bad ass closed off arena and will compete for the title for that season. I also imagine a bracket will be made, and each match will be allowed a few days to get together and have their bout. Player’s can continue exhibition matches that are knocked out of the playoffs towards the championship til the offseason ends and new one begins.



    Current brain stormed rules:


    • No mounts

    • No looting of armor or of weapon

    • Supplies can be looted during the fight to aid your team

    • No ressing during the current match

    • No poisoned weapons before the fight begins.

    • Pick your own arena or area that is agreeable away from interruption to prevent integrity of the match.

    • Team size should be no more than +/- 2 players. So a team of Four should not be outnumbered more than by a group of Six. It is up to the teams to accept the roster before the match.

    Points: Teams will receive 10 points for a victory, and will lose 3 points for a loss. This will celebrate winning streaks and encourage more activity without breaking the guild for a few poor showings. This is mainly bragging rights as all who qualify and meet the minimum set of participations in matches will be allowed into the playoffs/championship.


    Load outs:


    • Each team will be allotted 30 points to divide amongst their entire current roster per round for the match. This mean a team of 4 gets 30 points of gear and a team of 6 can only spend 30 points of gear. It is up to the team to decide how this is divided and can be used in any combination.

    • Reg cost: 0 - unlimited amount of regs is allowed during all matches

    • Bandage cost: 0 - unlimited bandages allowed during all matches

    • Cure potions: 5 potions will cost 3 points - unlimited amount allowed.

    • Yellow potions: 5 potions will cost 3 points - unlimited amount allowed.

    • Red potions: 10 potions will cost 3 points - unlimited amount allowed. (manage those stun attempts!)

    • Strength potions: 10 potions will cost 3 points - unlimited amount allowed

    • Dexterity potions: 10 potions will cost 3 points - unlimited amount allowed

    • Greater Heal wands: Each charge on each wand will be 5 points - unlimited amount allowed

    • Mana Drain wands: 1 Full Wand will cost 5 points - unlimited amount allowed.

    • Lightning wand: 1 Full Wand will cost 5 points - unlimited amount allowed.

    • Weapons with Power (or below) modifier will cost 5 points

    • Weapons with Vanq modifier will cost 7 points

    • Weapons with exceptional Agapite properties will cost 11 points

    • Weapons with exceptional Verite properties will cost 13 points

    • Armor: 0 cost - any armor allowed

    • Trapped Pouches - 5 pouches cost 1 point

    Pretty much anything goes as far what's allowed during battle, full 7x no restrictions


    This is a very fresh and very rough draft of the concept of what a few of us would love to see created. The players who would enjoy being participants will certainly need to provide their feedback and any ideas to add or remove to the concept.


    I think this is enough to post for a sense of desire and for the community to build upon. I hope that with a bit of dedication we can get this going after a couple weeks of planning and peer review and move towards the next step.


    Any suggestions on how do we host the ladder/ranking/point system so it cannot be vandalized but also for it to not require much effort for matches to happen and be spur of the moment.


    I am willing to dedicate as much as I can as far as rewards or support and my time if we as players can make this happen. And I know others will as well.

    I love everything but this.

    I understand how the points work for weapon types, but all characters warriors/mages can stock up on what they feel they need before the fight.

    If i understood right is a event that will happen in specific instances, right?
    Like a CTF?
    For me this is the best idea! In my point of view this increase the diversity on the pvp.. The no Loot Thing makes all the difference for young players.


    I was thinking about: The best event of the shard is the Night of Horrors... and why? why everyone is on the same level, everyone starts with nothing. Yesterday i was on test server practicing with a valorite spear and i thought... why not pvp events there...

    This will level the playing field of people that think Tamers are actual pvpers lol. That's my best take on it. EXCELLENT idea can't wait to partake in these epic fights!

    Team sizes being balanced by load outs is the reasonings behind this.

    Basically to see a system that requires your team to keep you alive, and limiting the dumps and turning the tide when a team survives the onslaught and changes in advantage.

    If resources are not limited then team size would probably just have to be matching in size, otherwise interesting mismatches and less encouragement to want to take on higher odds.

    Cross heal and cross cures and stun locks and things required instead god mode survival loadouts.

    However if the concept of more of a cross healing and cures to stay on your feet approach and using resources only during "oh shit" moments needs a better balance all that can be adjusted. Amounts allowed per point cost or what have ya.

    Green and purple potions were left off by accident.

    Poison pots would likely need to be relatively expensive as one alone is extremely powerful in a limited resource system.

    Purples is a pretty standard attack
    test was a lot of fun a minute ago. i was one of the few jackasses running around. and it may be a good spot to figure out a proper loadout system based around amount of players.
