I used to watch my brothers play ultima online when I was younger and finally started to play myself on defiance around 2000. After I stopped playing I returned years later and the shard was dead and boring...just wanting to make sure this one isn't like that before I download it. I used to love this game and I only want to come back if I'm going to love it like I did back in 2000
Welcome Wink! This shard is awesome, and has progressively gotten better and better. The staff is good-- nay, awesome, and provide us with new content and events often. There is a Ton to do here, and some great people to do things with. Download the client and see for yourself. Hop on IRC as well - plenty of folks there to assist.
Hail and welcome! You will love it here even more than you did in 2000. Find Gideon and get shacked up in New Player Housing and get down to good times right out of the gate! Hit me or Corruption up to get a ride to the provocation training rig, if you're so inclined to take the path of the bard.
On behalf of Hasselhoff Industries, welcome. I started here ~14 months ago. My entire goal was to make a couple hundred thousand gold and buy a tower. I could then cross "buy a decent UO house" off of my MMO bucket list. That took a couple weeks. I'm still here 13 months later and loving it.
* a letter arrives at your door step * Sorry I couldn't greet you in person. I've a matter of rotwood and reapers to tend to north of Minoc... Those folks from the A^T guild and the land of OoO just can't seem to tend their own weeds, and no way in HELL am I letting their dandelions spread to my yard! Anyhow, welcome to the shard! I too left UO in days of yore because it didn't have the same feel. The division of realms made the population sparce and I felt that anybody I encountered was almost 'bribing' me to stay. I bid farewell to the pay for... abandoned landscapes? As others have said, there is quite a bit to do here. Most of us are grown and are convincing ourselves that we can still play UO AND have families, so game play can be sporadic. Whenever I am on I try to pack as much in as I can. I'll stop by a bank or two to see if there are any new faces, and then I'll wander out into the world to perform heroic tasks! There are many player run events that happen more regularly than my personal game play. Some of them are: Grimoire Fight Nights (usually every Friday Night) Summoners Sprint (every couple of weeks/months/days or as can be planned) Tournament of Champions (http://uorforum.com/threads/tournament-of-champions-round-3-some-new-changes-for-this-week.5422/) Here are some of the stories that have come from our gameplay http://uorforum.com/threads/village-oral-history.2248/
Darn those A^T folks and leaving reapers on their yards! Did you know they let ratmen kidnap maidens and drag them out to their front yards as well?! Those silly A^T folk.
UO Renaissance - "History Perfected" Should be UOR - "LIKE A BOSS" It's these little changes that have a profound impact on creating a stable economy, allowing certain skills to retain their value and add to the overall experience of risk vs. reward!
As is the accurate mechanic for early Renaissance, no, they are not: http://uorforum.com/threads/blessed-rune.2683/page-3#post-17128 Most people mistakenly only remember them being blessed on OSI -- but they were originally neither blessed nor newbied when introduced, and were only newbied via a bug. The decision, after much fighting with the community (nearly a years worth of it), was to bless all runebooks retroactively. As Tay said, this is a good thing for the economy of the shard, and also gives a potential source of income to scribes, beyond scroll crafting.
Welcome to UOR. As stated above, there is so much to do here that I believe every play style will be kept busy. The staff is grand, they keep up with all the "staff work" and are very approachable. I have played here since the beginning, and have seen the population grow with new folks actually playing and enjoying. I could easily go on and on about how great this server is....so will cut it short. Hop on irc, ask questions, our egos love that. ( being in the know) I am Westra on irc. As always Have fun and be safe
