Beta/1st Anni Players - who is still around?

With @Gideon Jura departing the realm, I became curious about who is still around and active or semi-active. Even doing something now and then ingame every few months. Some may only come back for events otherwise have been refreshing. Since I'm using the forums to discern "who is still around from that era of UO:R" I will likely miss several. There may be players who changed their identify for various reasons thus wont be captured. I will list the few I know off the top of my head then look at this past Event Season (Halloween to Easter). Yep, I'm still around.... I don't know that I'll ever leave this place as long as it's still around. Sad to see the old Village of Paws nearly deserted these days, though.

Writing here on the forums helped me get my first book going too. And I plan to turn some of the stories here into a fantasy book series. Kind of a tribute and an homage to the style of writing that first made me start thinking it was more than a hobby and a dream, but a possible career.

Also, I think we all need to take a moment and really appreciate just how much this game brings to our lives. It seems that these days having a little fantasy, a little escape from the real, is not a bad thing. And I am thoroughly and eternally grateful for all of the hard work that goes into it, as I'm sure the rest of us are as well.

I was on this shard within about 30 seconds of it being created. Alpha status.

I'm still around but currently taking a break. My hard drive crashed and I haven't had the time or energy to rebuild my macros on my new laptop.

Still about, was here for the first anny event so started sometime during that first year!

I’m still here, joined a few months before the 1st anniversary. Mostly playing casually these days.

Found out about UOR while playing on voldeshard and seeing Blaise getting blasted about the new server he was playing on.

What started as a project to see how quick I could place a house while the family was out of town one weekend ended up being a long haul of 7 years on UOR. I’ve taken a few breaks over the years but can’t ever seem to stay away for long!

Descartes still drops in to say hi every now and again but I don't think he's playing.

I still remember within about a week of starting here I was running around the plains west of Covetous before you get to the desert crossroads. That was the area where my guild had a town on Chesapeake Shard back in the day (Silvervale, if anyone remembers that far back). I had the foolish idea that I might find an open patch of ground to stake out for a future house. Then I saw all of the castles, keeps, and fortresses and realized every open patch of grass was already taken. lol

As I was running around, though, a pk that I can't even remember now hopped out of that first castle you come to moving from vesper to the west. Asked what I was doing, and I explained why I was snooping around their house/neighborhood and that I was new to the shard. He told me to wait a minute, ran back inside, and came back out with a bag that had 2 GM armor suits, several fencing weapons up to power, and a check for a random 32k and some change.

Talk about a great introduction to the shard.

I know there have been beefs and bad blood here and there (always is in a community this size) but overall the people here are why I still come back and play around. I like that I'm now at that point where I can be the random person dropping 3k bandages, a 10k check, and a mid-level runic on a young player running around Occlo lost. Feels good to pay it forward.
