Hello all, starting today UOR will incorporate a new group of lesser bosses! Why so many new bosses? This update is mainly for new players, giving them a higher chance at encountering bosses and getting small amounts of platinum coin. Veteran players can also benefit, but the champ/harrower system will remain a much greater source of platinum coin for the time being. The new group of bosses will NOT have any chance at pec meat or statues at this time. The primary reward is increased challenge and greater loot. This will also help breakup the grind of killing fifty identical monsters for the same difficulty and loot. Further details on locations, timers, difficulty, drop rates, and so on will not be posted. At a later time, many of these bosses will migrate to the website where that information is commonly found. Thanks to all who gave input on the first stages of this project. As with anything in UOR, it took a LONG time to finalize and implement.
Q&A Section Will there be added loot besides plat? Not at this time, but the monster-types will have the correct loot. Lets look at orcs for example: They can all drop a type of orc mask by default, and so do the bosses. They all respond to the orc faction or masks by default, and so do the bosses. All drop random boots, lvl1 tmaps, and other stuff, as do the bosses. You can expect this for all the new bosses. They will follow the correct loot and slayer types, but nothing special beyond greater plat chance. When will these appear on the website? I am not sure right now. The files for all the new monsters are ready, but there a lot of other stuff that needs to happen first. In the meantime, killing an ettin boss will count as killing a standard ettin for the websites tracking. It does still track, the leaderboards are just broken. Are these new bosses like old ones that are tied to a location, or do they spawn like zookeeper animals in any location? These are very much like old bosses, and can only be found in specific locations. The main locations you can ignore are smaller rooms with only 1-2 of a single monster type. To avoid AFK dungeon farmers, the smaller locations were not selected. Setting up an "all kill" macro and going AFK wont help you get the new bosses. When will the new bosses get statues or other loot? Telamon and I talked about this in the planning process. If & when the monsters move to the website with a patch, they can then have more custom drops and features added. Some of the loot ideas talked about beyond statues were things like rare weapons similar to the executions axe. Details on all these things would be posted on the website in the future. Why didn't liches get a boss? Lets look at liches as a group, liches, lich lords, ancient liches, and Dark Ones. There is already a scaled system to fight harder liches if you want, and 3 locations to farm the Dark One boss. In addition, if you look at lich spawns, most of them are in smaller areas where "all kill" macros can do 99% of the farming. The lich ruins outside Yew would be a good location, but it was decided that the location should remain a low-mid tier farming location. Add a boss and it becomes much more of a hotspot then a general farming area. Whats with the secrecy and lack of information? I talked with Telamon about this and we both agreed it would be better to exclude most details for two reasons. Its more fun and rewarding to discover things in the game vs. reading a guide and following steps 1,2,3. Yes, thats subjective opinion, but I believe its true in this case. Also, these are not difficult bosses in a timed instance. You dont need a guide, youtube video, or any other information to successfully fight these lesser bosses. I was going to include "some" information about drop rates but Telamon reminded me of Garriott's old policy. Rather then saying platinum drop rates will be X%, we are saying the drop rates are increased. This stays in line with the whole supremely accurate sword of vanquishing vs. +25 accuracy and +9 damage readout. This is a classic server and Telamon wants to insure that all the new content and the way it enters the server stays with the classical feel.
Cool stuff, is the picture above a comprehensive snapshot of all the new bosses (33 by my quick count)?
