Thats what i thought also, but supposedly they didnt chop it or pick it. they simply opened it. (supposedly)
Would this by any chance be a chest that some noob dropped in front of ice dungeon entrance? If so, that noob would be very happy to know this
Playermade boxes are disarmed once you use the key on them. They won't be trapped while being able to open. Lockpicking them or chopping them will most definitely kill you. I have wondered though if trapped boxes would do damage to monsters/npcs who walk over them thereby destroying said boxes. Maybe it's just a simple delete rather than a chop that triggers the blast.... but that would be kind of hilarious to make minefields for monsters....
There is a scenario where a tinker chest will trigger the trap when opened by doubleclick. If FujiFlu will explain the context of what he experienced I will explain how it is done.
It didn't happen to me. It happened to someone else. They are claiming that they opened a chest on the ground (did not lockpick it), and it blew up and killed them. So i'd like to know how someone armed a trap without it being locked -OR- unlocked the trapped box without it blowing up, and staying armed.
It was locked and armed. The person MUST have chopped or picked it.. Otherwise i have no idea how it would have happened. I mean, that noob friend of mine said it was locked and armed
I was killed by a trapped box via snooping last week. Do some of these boxes exist and no longer possible to make? ___ I just tested this with 80 Tinkering. 1. Trapped the box. 2. Did not lock it 3. Snooped myself on another character 4. Died to 120 damage dart while wearing 25 AR
I used to have so much fun with these in the old days on OSI as protection from thieves and to kill PKers. I'd entice PKers to attack me, pretending to put up a fight by casting spells and getting "interrupted" to make a dramatic show of dying. I'd have nothing of value on me...except a trapped box that would have 8 items in it, totalling 80 stones(rocks from memory), to trick them into thinking it was my regs. A hidden friend nearby would then dry loot them and rez me. The trick to arming boxes on OSI in those days involved turning the box to face the other direction. No idea how it works here, as I've only just started on the shard.
Let me get this straight....You can walk up to someone in town and throw a explode pot at their feet. But trapped boxes are semi disabled because its griefing?
I realize this is an old thread, but I did an experiment which answered my question about trapped boxes. When you trap a chest, it does not activate until you lock it with the key. When you unlock it with a key, it disarms until you lock it again. If you drop it on the ground and someone lock picks it, the trap goes off. If you have it in your backpack and someone snoops the chest, it goes off, even though it is locked. After the trapped chest in your backpack goes off, it is no longer locked.
