Ahoy! I have just recently started playing on this shard (and I have brought at least 1 friend with me, hopefully some more might be joining later on), and I noticed that there is no Tribal pain. This might not seem like such a big issue (from an era accuracy or general playstyle point of view), but to us roleplaying Undead skeletons, the ability to make our skin grey is quite relevant. Even if it is not the same colour as bone armour, it is more like it, and less like "human wearing bone armour". Although I would love to see blessed bone armor the same hue as the skin paint, I would be content just with the paint.

A good rp community is, if not the largest, usually a popular part of any server (I come from Europa, on OSI, where the rp. population accounted at least half of the total server population at its peak). Not only does it bring in players who come specifically for the rp., but it also adds immersion to the world itself. A good way to cater to a role playing population, without actually breaking the game or giving majorly unfair advantages, would be to add small things such as these.

As a list, I would very much like to see, but am in no way demanding or requesting, the following:

Tribal paint (if nothing else, then this would make me very happy)
1 Medable, blessed, untradable bone helmet per mage skeleton character

    Sincerely,
    Temekh

UO has never done much with the changing of an avatar's physical appearance, at least not until they introduced the playable necromancers, ninjas, and samurais. But that was no longer UO, in my humble opinion.

A few exceptions, like the disguise kit, which is only available to a thief of a certain level and who is also a member of the thieve's guild. There is also bottles of hair dye one can purchase, or hair restyling deeds which are usually only available as rewards and/or prizes. Finally, there is Pollymorph, a spell which temporarily changes your avatar into a monster or an animal.

Have you considered the use of Tribal Masks, Bearskins, Orc Helms, or even full sets of Bone Armor? These might prove to be almost as good.

Good luck and welcome to UO Ren good sir Temekh.

I am not sure that you understood what I meant (perhaps I phrased myself badly?). I want a blessed, medable BONE HELMET, the ones that are in the game already, so that people can play skeletal mages, as well as that I want a BLESSED, MEDABLE orc mask (once again, the ones that are in the game already). The reason for them being blessed is that it would be hard to replace these rp-specific items upon the countless deaths that befall players. I did not at all intend to change the looks of the avatar.

Neither tribal paint nor tribal masks exist in the game at all, currently, and for (as I mentioned in the original post) a full set of bone armor to look even semi-decent, it needs tribal paint.

Correct me if I am wrong, but can't you just bless an orc mask and hue it?

Ah yes, the orcs (if there now are any) could certainly bless normal orc masks. Bone helmets are, however, not blessable and not medable.

    Also, thanks for the welcomes.

I believe the orc masks are blessable with a clothing bless deed. As far as the bone helmets, there are plenty of players, myself included, that would be glad to donate items such as these to RP guilds. It also bears mentioning that we, in fact, do have tribal masks and bone armor is craftable here.

The craftable bone armor is dark grey and not of normal hue, is it? Or can one choose that? As for savage masks, I heard yesterday in the IRC that savages are currently not in the game due to them only spawning, eh, neon masks.

Also, that still does not adress the problem with them not being medable, so playing an undead Mage is impossible, still.

I think bone armor takes the hue of the material used to craft it. You can certainly choose to have it "un-hued" when it's made. As far as the med-ability of bone armor you must consider what other changes that might have on other players. I play a mage and don't want to have to start wearing bone armor to compete. Were it only the bone helms, I suppose that wouldn't be too big a deal. . . If you look around in game you'll find a good number of players wearing tribal masks. I believe they are currently only found in treasure chests.

Well, since it was helmets-only I did not think it would impact the game all too much, from an armor-perspective. Also, remember that we are speaking of 1-3 players on the shard as a whole, here, none of whom would be a PvP'er (except maybe some joint hunts very rarely), so the general impact of giving a few members of the community blessed, medable bone helmets to completely enable a roleplaying archetype would not, as far as I know, break the game balance at all.

Addendum: Great! So if anyone decides to roleplay a savage, then that is possible, at the very least. Still not the more important tribal kin paint, however. (more important for UD roleplay, that is)

You should set your sights higher than 1-3 players that don't PvP. And speaking of setting your sights higher, maybe you should play a lich until you get a medable bone helm.

I'm playing a swordsman until I get one (so I might end up playing one forever :D )And 1-3 players playing bone magi is a good goal, seeing how people can play liches, skeletal warriors, zombies, etc., at least in my opinion.

Well, you were here first so you should get to be the lich lord. Let some newb recruit down the line play a bone magi or skeletal mage.

Glad to see RPers here in any form, though. I'd like UOR to become the RP destination among freeshards.

Actually, I think there is an undead guild (TDL), who already have a lich lord. I have not yet been able to reach their GM (Gharik), sadly. Also, playing a rattling bone magi is something special for me c:

And yes, I would like that as well. It has every potential to become just that.

Gharik's around. He's been notified of another player looking for him so I imagine he'll be in touch. Just seems like he's really busy atm.

Also, I role-played a savage elsewhere and find the paint to be entirely unnecessary if not an ugly hassle. In fact, were I to start a savage guild here I really wouldn't want to deal with the paint so, yeah, that'd be mostly for you dead guys.

Nice to see Tater is bringing nothing to the table. LOL

Urks don't get to bless their orc helms because they are armor, not clothing. Same goes for bone helmets. They can be crafted in various hues and as such are not such a rarity that you would need a fortune to have a chest full of spares, literally. I do not feel blessing these items is necessary or relevant to your RP desires.

Tribal paint or the ability to attain skin hues not found in the default skin tone selection, is something I would not be opposed to, as long as it was within reason. To expand on that, I would like to see restrictions in place requiring membership in an RP guild that justifies the use.
In example, undead guild for 'dead/grey' skin, savage guild for reddish hues (strictly limited to non-bright red, but more like dried blood red, if any, and more yellowish hues for orcs.

Not sure how that could be controlled easily without GM intervention but I'd be on board with it.
I would not be on board with every murderer/1337 pvper running around with red skin because it's "sofa king cool, bro".

Actually, making the polymorph spell last till death like we were talking about for werewolves might be a good solution to Temekh's problem.

Blaise, orc masks are supposed to be blessable, even though they are armor, actually. As for blessed bone helmets, I maintain that it is only for the medable ones, which would have to be custom made by GM intervention.

As for the skin hues, I don't see why GM interaction would be a horrendous thing. Or just give each rp guild a batch of skin paint.
