Everyone plays UO for different reasons, I am NOT a leet PvPer but Ive had my share of it on SP, about 5 years worth. I play now as a way to relax after work, I am not looking for any drama and PvP= Drama, maybe down the road when I have fully trained PvP templates I might jump in for fun, but that's all it will be. Currently I have 1 GM tamer with 1 bonding slot, my Bards are fishermen so this is my PvM, not avoiding PKs. If I was in a Dungeon id recall, I am not dumb enough to fight a PK(s) on a Bard with no resist. I made Fishermen specifically to compete in Zyler's Tournament for over 5 Million in Prize's, and then found out that all the AMiB's/Nets/MiB's/T-Maps were a huge Gold source as well. I could do them all myself or sell them, either way it was future gold, and future PvM if you do the maps and nets and mibs. Zyler turned me on to fishing, It was something I had neglected to do in my previous 12 years of UO and I thank him for it as well as Telemon/Criss and staff for making it something fun here!
No doubt fishing is a great way to play, I was only commenting toward my speculation on someone's intentions on paying 4k per net. As for my previous experience with them I think it's merely my historically bad RNG luck
The fishing here is awesome, I absolutely love it, I'll often fish on my right monitor while I'm playing Civ 5 on the left monitor, for the double-down quiet night after work. I feel you about the PvP. I was an active PvPer back in my days on the OSI shards, but I got UO PvP out of my system a long, long time ago. These days, I'm here for the crafting, the T-Maps, the fishing, and the peace and quiet. I find the endless drama of PvP exhausting these days. Probably because I went and got old congrats on all the money from the fishing, by the way. I might just have to save up my nets and sell them myself. 3-4k is mighty tempting.
Honestly the only reason I buy the nets for that price is because I don't want to bother with fishing and I usually get jailed for afk because I cannot sit here and look at a screen hours on end. Hard enough running 3 fishing on one laptop and hoping that I can alt tab back and forth to catch the afk menu. Be a different story if I was at home playing I could duo monitor it and be more resourcesful but the risk of being jailed while playing at work is to high.
That's a fine point, Hammer. When I'm fishing, I almost always have to have something else I'm doing on my primary monitor, while the fisher does his thing on the secondary monitor. Sometimes I'll chop wood or mine on my other account (my crafters are on the same account as the fisher), sometimes it is Civ 5, sometimes it's just surfing the net. I thought seriously about adding more fishers, when someone (I forget who, because, again, old) talked about how effective his three mage/fishers and their EBolt spam vs serps was when fishing. It would give me more to keep track of, get more money out of the fishing, and keep myself occupied with more to do.. But it sounds exhausting, and a recipe for afk jailtime. Still might do it at some point, though, just to see.
I run a 27" Monitor at home split X 3 to minimize jailing. Gamplay Window set at 640x480 to fit all 3 screens in there, until I can multiple monitor or buy a widescreen. A second old media computer to my right keeps IRC and the Forum up at all times with ITunes running sound.
That's a pretty good setup, Savage. I've been thinking about adding a second fisher, at least (I only have two accounts at the moment, 2nd fisher would be on third account), and that's a good, clean interface. It'd also give me a reason to go out and get a 27" monitor. Now to find a way to pitch that to my wife. She already thinks it is ridiculous that I sit at my computer for hours at a time, digitally fishing.
LOL, I cant help it, i have spells set to hot keys but I like pulling the spell icons out, it's an old habit. I will admit I don't have all my characters set up with a "Profile" yet so I do end up dbl klicking some spells on some characters.
