Hi everyone! I just registered to this shard and made a new character. I'm excited to start playing and I just wanted to give a greetings to everyone on the forum. I've played Ultima Online off and on since the nineties and I've always had a passion for this great game. I've forgotten basically everything I know but I'm excited to rediscover it all. If there is anything I should know to help me along in my fresh start to this shard please tell me. Anyways, thanks. I'm looking forward to gaming with you guys.
Hey and welcome to UOR Maltman! If you have any questions hop in IRC, there are always plenty of people who are happy to answer. Also on the forums there is a wealth of information to be had. Good luck building yourself up sir!
Welcome. I think the most important thing to know is that there is a massive wealth of information available on the forums and through IRC. Learning where the guides section and getting in irc and asking will get you a long long way. My first character here, provocation mage. I highly recommend it. http://uorforum.com/threads/fast-track-guide-to-a-provoke-mage.1646/
Welcome to the shard! Great tips posted already. The overwhelming majority of the playerbase will help you out and try to answer any questions as well as they can. I recommend browsing the guide section of the forum ( And particularly the thread "One guide to rule them all" i think its called ) wich has a huge collection of most guides with links and information on pretty much every skill ingame, how to use it,raise it,make money, what it costs to raise certain skills, and tons more. But theres also many good guides and guides/guidelines on templates in the overall guide forum. Also ,like others said, definetly join IRC! And if you want you can type /Join #PS (copy paste this if you want) and hit enter in IRC and you will enter Project Sanctuarys IRC. Lots of experienced players and a few fresh to medium fresh starters mixed together. You dont have to be a member of the guild or anything to get advice and help. Dont feel slighted if you come in and nobody answers. Theres people covering almost every timezone and many people(including me) will stay in the chat even when working, sleeping or doing other things and read any messages when waking up/coming back home. Welcome to the shard!
And if you get frustrated dont quit, ask for advice or help on how to move forward wether you follow El horno's advice (wich is a very good first character!) or go another direction. You wont get any grief for asking questions and its far more pleasant than getting stuck for fear of people calling you a newbie or anything like that. I'd say that doesnt ever happen here, but it might have, though i have never witnessed it! Theres no shame in being rusty..im still shaking off some of the rust myself. Just keep asking and reading guides and playing and you will be up and running fairly quickly! Take advantage of the fact that you are allowed to play 3 accounts,if you feel comfortable with that, and read about Razor(the program to launch the client) and how to use the function for macros that comes with the program launcher (theres a bunch of menus you can switch between, one is called macros, very easy to use!) and such for skills that dont really require you actively clicking the button 10 000 times in 6-12 second intervals. Things like Eval int, musicianship, anatomy..can all be raised macroing it and it doesnt hurt anyone and complies with the rules. If you choose to make a warrior, on any of your accounts especially if you choose to do so now at the beginning, something that worked very well for myself was to make a lumberjack swordsman(using axes,Lumberjack provides extra damage) and while getting lumberjacking up to GM i collected enough resources to sell for well over 200 000 gold and thats more than enough to get a house and afford to bring any type of character to wherever you want it. And you'll have a pretty damn decent warrior as a bonus. And even if you decide you prefer another playstyle the gold will make it so much easier to afford reagents to take magery to GM level. But a provocation/mage like El horno mentioned can also get up and running fairly quickly and also make money. If you go the lumberjack road on any character i recommend googling "Hatecrimes lumberjack macro". It only requires you have a few hatchets,a pack horse and a hatchet equipped. Start the macro and walk up to a tree and it will hack away, when the tree is dry, move to the next. Saves you having to manually click and target..lumberjacking is extremely boring and its a huge, huge help and lets you keep your sanity, hehe.
Welcome aboard! You might want to look here http://uorforum.com/threads/ultima-online-lost-and-found.6767/ maybe you'll find someone here you know from the past. Add your old names from other shards as well, maybe someone will be looking for you at some point. For the most part, anyone who plays on a free server usually ends up here because it's awesome
Welcome to UO Renaissance! These two links are my goto for helping new players these days. Getting Started > http://www.uorenaissance.com/list/GettingStarted/P The Compendium > http://www.uorenaissance.com/info/
I am not sure its been mentioned yet but, Young program, you have 30 days per account, and it can be really grand to get you started when you are learning/re-learning the game mechanics, and the worry free Occlo hunting is a nice bonus as well. When I fist started here on my Axxer (Swords, lumberjack, tactics, anat, healing, resists, magic) I hunted more coin then i knew what to do with killing orcs at the orc camp. Anywho, Welcome
Hi. Welcome to our crazy world. Seriously, the player community here is remarkable. Many host in game events. The staff is fantastic, very approachable and have worked hard to make this server enjoyable for all play styles. Advice already given, is all very good. I will add. DO NOT CARRY runebooks in your inventory, they are not blessed here and can be taken off your body. Most players keep runebooks in their banks ( when you get to the point of home ownership, at least a town one in your home) I usually carry a bank rune in my inventory with means to recall. Regents and a recall scroll. Another good thing to carry is at least three of a container which you can cast the low level magic trap spell on ( I use the small pouches) the reason for this is that they will break the paralized spell. Just double click on one and it will explode causing your person very little damage. Drop by Wispfelt Village ( right across from West Brit cross roads in the big clearing) Have a rune library and many homes are open for public use. I am Westra on irc and my main in game is Marjo. enjoy
I'll just take a moment here and reiterate what everyone has already said: This shard has the best player community of any UO shard I've ever been a part of. You've got a truly awesome group of people here, who really want to help. Don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you need it.
Although a bit late, nevertheless I hope it is just as well received Welcome to UO:R. A place where economy thrives, the adventure continues, and danger lurks in every shadow. Jupiter Greystone
Hey Maltman, Just give a shout in IRC, i'm pretty sure you will find at least 10 contacts willing to help (including me). Welcome to UOR.
