Are selling ingots a profitable living here on this server or does everyone just mine their own? Looking to get into a business of mining and selling once I can reliably smelt my iron. Thanks for any input.
Iron Ingots will sell quick at 8gp per, coloured ingots seem to go for nearly twice that pretty quickly. Mining can be pretty damn profitable, especially if you start utilizing gargoyle pickaxes and shovels to spawn ore golems.
Looks like I need to get my mining up to start getting some cash flow to fund my mage.... and/or getting a mining house so I can make more $$$ lol
You'll need to build a fighter/battle miner for the best possible ingot production. Not even sure if you need mining to run those gargoyle shovels, so maybe even just a capable dexxer. Pack horses have had their capacity doubled here to 3200 stones. You can bond one simply by owning it for some time and feeding it. That said, traditional mining pretty much sucks now unless you stick to low/no-spawn mountainsides or find some caves that aren't plagued by shitty spawns. Thus, battle mining is the way to go about it here. I'll buy pretty much any/all Dull Copper and Shadow ingots you can muster and I'm not the only one.
Agreed with above. There are at least 4 or 5 of us who buy every colored ingot we can get our grubby little hands on.
Disagree with above. Traditional mining is fine, and really better than ever with the decline of rampant recall mining. You just can't mine unmolested in some specific caves here (aggressive monsters spawn in some of the previously empty caves on UOR). Ingot prices are at an all time high right now. No better time to be a miner on UOR.
I bought a fortress and a large tower by mining here. Battle miner. miner/smith/healing/swords/tacs/anat. I mined mostly at West Britain along the mountain with garg picks I bought in bulk from players. Invest in a earth shatter sword/axe/mace/fence and make that your weapon skill. Invest in fort powder to max the hp of your weapon. Blaise is a good guy here for questions about that. He helped me plenty. Save colors till 1k each and sell in bulk to a player. You will have plenty knocking at your door for those. Smith your iron till gm for bods. Get your bods every 6 hrs and soon you will learn the bod game. I based a 2 guilds around this. The Mining Fools and Dwarf Fortress. Protip: dont let it turn into your job, when its feels like a grind....do something else. Have fun. To the players of this server: I played with the OP on another server back in the day, good guy.

Well, I GM'ed Mining from 50.0 at Minoc, no spawns, just a basic macro to mine relative location 0,1 and move the ore to the pack horse. Mined until the pack horse was full and then stopped to smelt, you can get 500 iron ingots and 10-20 colored at each round. Took me some time (it wasn't a concern for me) and at the end I gathered around 17k Iron (enough to GM Tinkering from 30s) and 2k each coloured ingot except verite and valorite. If you have some patience, you can do it without fighting or anything. I used 2 pcs, I was playing actively in one and just walking the mining macro in another, so it was ok for me.
I said for the best possible ingot production. You can't even remotely pull the same number of ingots with traditional mining, that you can hammering out gargoyle picks or shovels efficiently. That's my gripe, along with the caves being fucked permanently by spawn, in North Mines specifically but many other caves as well. I'm not offended that people like this farce of UO mining better but I know it's nothing to do with the game play and everything to do with the output and potential for rares.
I don't mine as a primary source of income, but sometimes I will if I'm feeling cheap and don't want to buy ingots. The most you can expect to mine in an hour is maybe 2000 iron ingots and 500 colored (I'm estimating based on 1.5x of the rate at which I mine to take into account my own incompetence ). Wheresa, you could just kill dragons. If you skin a dragon and sell the gems, you're looking at each dragon being worth about 1800 gold (that's before magic items). May want to just consider killing dragons and buying the ingots with gold. I will say that the one thing that's nice about mining or logging is that you don't actually have to play to do it. You can set up a macro, and just move your character every 30 seconds while watching youtube or w/e.
I don't know what is it for me, but mining/smithing has always gave me some weird sort of accomplishment? However in the same respect I absolutely HATE lumberjacking. So confusing really but I look forward to getting to that point. Wish there was a cave that gave no resources so you can macro up mining so that it becomes slightly easier but I guess that's part of the pains of a smithy
An hour or so on Test Center is a worthwhile investment. Blaise put in some work to help the community on test center, give this post a review before heading there. http://uorforum.com/threads/auto-template-macros-for-test-center.8277/ As to your question, I personally run a bard/magery style template with peacemaking. I used to use discordance. I have recently dumped that without hesitation and no regrets. Also, Remember that magery is double damage to NPC's when considering if you want to use Eval Int or not. I'll leave it to you to discern it's value for yourself on test center comparing with/without by calculating your actual dps. Another fun way to look at the problem is ask yourself, "If I had to fight this... http://www.uorenaissance.com/info/Nessie ... what skills/resources would I want to have?" G'luck
