Dear PCGAMER, I recently found myself staring at my huge game collection with such modern high powered titles like WoW, Skyrim, Starcraft 2, among many others. I wondered which game I was going to play today. Then it hit me, “I wonder if Ultima Online is still running in any capacity?” Much to my delight it is. There is a prolific gaming community of player run “shards” that are all free to play all over the interwebs. After several attempts at these shards, I found that these servers are as different (or similar) to the UO of yesteryear as the players themselves. I settled on the true-to-era Ultima Online Renaissance server after a quick google search for that name and quickly found myself grinding away hours, days, weeks of pixelated titillation just like I did back in UO’s hayday. Please inform your readers that UO still exists, and in the case of UOR, is operated by a staff that regularly patches, maintains, and hosts events just like any modern game. Tell them that UO is still alive…It’s ALIVE!! ___________________________________________________________ Let's hope they publish it and we get some new blood.
letters@pcgamer.com is the address if anyone wanted to write a letter to the magazine. If anyone is familiar with the mag, UOR would be a perfect feature article for the "reinstall" or (perhaps more appropriate) "extra life" segments they have as a regular installment. If you do decide to write a letter, post it here. I'd love to see how others are doing their part to grow the server.
Oh, one more thing... I will change my avatar pic soon Blaise. I just got such a kick out of it (and I think you did too) that I wanted to keep it up for a few more days.
I wonder if there are any legalities still tied to EA and freeshards. Also, advertising on this level could bring a large flood of new players.
