SO! As most of you know I'm a big-time IRC troll. Tonight I've heard a fair amount of belly-ache'n about missing that pirate invasion (btw cool one Tela). So I was thinking... How about there be some sort of timer or warning system for SOME of these events? This is how it could go... The town crier in Vesper begins to warn that ships and crew are vanishing in route to Vesper of late and the locals are very frightened. This could also be followed by a request for help. This would be the signal to players that something was going down in that town/area and to get there and help solve their problem and or stand guard in case there is REALLY trouble. These warnings could last for however long before something happens I suppose. Anywho' -- just my thought as I really always liked the idea of town criers I suppose. Thanks for reading -- see you in the IRCs.
I think the use of Town Criers is getting better, but you're right. A significantly longer lead-in time (like 24 hours prior) would be a good idea but it really depends on the event. There will always be belly aching from the "WTF, what did I miss" crowd and honestly, I've missed literally most of the PvM style events that cropped up here. Unfortunately for me, RL timing just seems magically in synch with whatever staff decides is a good time to put it on. Generally speaking, it's on my weekend (Sun/Mon) which is when I'm usually doing things with the kids or whatever. More lead in and perhaps double-waved (ie: two of the same event instance, but 12 hours apart) to provide more access to those with off-schedules or those overseas, would be a good thing as well. In any case, hail UO:R for even having these events no matter the frequency or timing.
