UO is designed at its core to be virtually free as far as physical limitations and governed by the consent of the people. I had an idea that could help "inspire" closer combat without physically restricting players. Here's the idea and this should be tied to a virtue and maybe a title class. If a player initiates aggression against any other player a certain regional limit is set. If you leave that limit for more than say 10 seconds it's abandoning the fight. If a blue attacks a red, and flees the abandonment would count against the blue, not the red and vice versa. If 2 or more people attack 1 target their "title" gain is significantly reduced and shared between all attackers. (if somebody attempts to interfere by having an unassociated alt attack, then the pvp group would need to tend to that distraction if they wanted to get full title gain for a battle) If you are attacked and you stay within the limits you chance to gain double the fame/credit. If you are blue and are attacked by a red and stay to the end (your death or theirs) you will gain some honor in the system. if followers kill anothet follower there is no gain. if a follower kills a player the gains are significantly reduced (sorry tamers but you've got your piles of golds). Now the system could easily be engineered by just killing an alt and racking up counts, but this would not really be any achievement or perhaps set a daily limit on positive gains but no limit on negative regression. To get it started, i don't think any benefits should be affixed to it other than perhaps a leader board and a title system. To me, this would solve a lot of other general issues in UO PvP one of the "most" difficult tasks is finishing blow because you can just recall away. Well, if recalling away means losing rank, fewer parties would flee because they wouldnt want the title of cowardly. On the PvP side it might help people be a little braver since they would have a chance to get a title gain (something more than "maaaaaybe" a petty and non existent statloss limit on pks) even if they only take down 1 before they fall. Hoorah UO!
