Okay, I am fairly lazy/busy right now... so... I will simply paste what was said in IRC and hope that a more dedicated person can/will organize anything wanted/needed and make this post better...

Basically, the idea is to find a way to keep the crafters in business, specifically in regards to house add-on deeds (anvil, forge, loom, bed, oven, etc...). To somehow find a way to prevent "accidental misplacement" of add-ons in houses resulting in loss of deed, while also preventing the eventual stalemate for crafters who will be unable to sell add-ons, due to people simply re-deeding/reusing the ones they previously placed.

Please post your ideas and/or pros/cons.

[14:22:25] <Frenulum_work> Telamon, are there any plans to make house add-ons NON-reusable?

[14:22:42] <Frenulum_work> forge, anvils, wheels, etc...
[14:22:48] <~Telamon> Not at the moment

[14:23:05] <~Telamon> But if you have an opinion on the issue post it in general
[14:23:26] <Frenulum_work> kinda sucks... after everyone gets what they want... really no use for crafters (for house add-ons at least...)
    [14:23:27] <Frenulum_work> cool

    [14:23:38] <~Telamon> Yea, that is a dilema
[14:23:51] <Frenulum_work> maybe limited reuse... or something...

[14:24:06] <Frenulum_work> ill check forums, and if i dont find anything ill post something up there

[14:24:30] <~Telamon> Yea, im all for crafter improvements, but it also sucks to lose a deed because you place it wrong

[14:26:06] <Frenulum_work> would there be anyway to allow those deed add-ons to be turned? similar to using the house deco tool?... to where there is only "an anvil" deed... instead of a deed for each direction..?
[14:27:52] <Frenulum_work> so crafters would still be able to make and sell all items, but each item is just a standard direction, which could be changed after placing by use of that deco tool..
[14:28:37] <Frenulum_work> otherwise.. there will really be little use for crafters at some point... if everyone can just redeed everything and reuse/resell it..
[14:29:03] <Frenulum_work> anyway.. you already told me to post it in general.. so enough here... ill go check there... Thx!
[14:30:17] <~Telamon> Yea, I dont have an opinion one way or the other, but that is an issue
[14:30:24] <~Telamon> and follows along the same lines with runebooks
[14:30:38] <Zyler> good point Fren on once you have addon, not much of market for crafter for addons
[14:30:41] <~Telamon> Every perma item, reduces the value of that ctafted class that makes it
[14:31:01] <~Telamon> A simple solution would to allow an item to be chopped, within 60 minutes of placemenrt
[14:31:12] <~Telamon> after that the "cement, paint, glue" has dried
    [14:31:19] <Zyler> ya!
[14:31:34] <Zyler> So you can move if not in right spot but only have 60mins
[14:31:36] DarkWing approves 60 minute timer
[14:31:37] <~Telamon> And have it only apply to crafted addons, not bear rugs, bod rewards etc

    Thanks,

While I find it irritating when I place one incorrectly, money comes easy in UO and a tradesman needs their trades!

    I say, let them demolish.

Bad idea, no ones getting pumped up to make more house add on's.
If you should make anything destroyable it should be boats at sea and limit mib pull ups to around a island or something like that + cannons= pirate fun.
That is what should happen, house add on's not so much.

Fren, I suspect that you sell more house addons than anyone else, but how many are we really talking about? 3-4 a day and a busy time when new housing opens up? Aren't there bigger fish to fry? If you really want to promote vendors and crafting you should be campaigning for NPC guilds and BOD expansion not this petty BS.

I reckon I was not really thinking about pumping people... in anyway... nor was I thinking this would be, in any way, related to pirating at sea... however, i believe boats DO, actually, decay, as well as get stolen, so the need to replace them helps in keeping the market somewhat alive and gives it a future. On the other hand, the only way that I know of, to destroy a house add-on, is to simply axe it and then throw/give it away. Other than that, you can re-deed/re-use the same add-on as many times as you would like. You can move it all over your house, or even from house to house. The idea I was attempting to get at, was that once everyone has their 1 add-on, they most likely will not be buying another when/if they decide to redecorate, move, etc. If there were limits on add-on re-use, then eventually, they would need to re-buy the deeds again because they would be destroyed/decayed/etc., which would help to allow the "crafters" of the game to continue to have a purpose.

I do have several boats out there, and I do enjoy my fair share of pirating people/stuff... so if you would care to point me in the direction of your pirate thread on the forums, I would most certainly like to read up on your ideas, as well as post some helpful comments... or at the very least, my opinions.

Well, that is actually fairly close to the point I am attempting to create. The number of house add-on deeds sold will simply continue to decrease, over time, server wide. As far as a big fish fry, I am somewhat partial to catfish (nuggets, not fillets) super deep fry 'em for a few minutes and eat them while they are still hot enough to melt your mouth.... oooohhhhh weeeeeeee.... them there will make ya slap yo pappy!!!

Promoting vendors and crafting, and campaigning for NPC guilds and BOD expansion, are all great ideas, and I have no issues with doing so. Having said that, again, I simply created this thread to see what kind of ideas, if any, other players have about the house add-on deed re-use (unlimited) v.s. single use (limited).

    Thanks,

Lightbulbs are engineered with notched filament so they will burnout over time. It's business continuity. If these items are indestructible and only disappear with a house collapse, the market is pointless. Everyone will have the same set of house add-ons they got when server started. Some will craft dozens just to never need them again.

What other craftable item is totally permanent and does not wear out, damage or have the chance to be destroyed. Aside from say, spellbooks? I didn't ponder this long, so I could be way off base but hopefully someone gets my point.

Please someone raise their hand and tell me these add-ons cost too much every time they move to a bigger home.....

I personally think that the "everlasting" house add-ons take away a fair portion of the marketing aspect for the trades/crafter class. As long as you don't die with it, or allow it to be stolen while in deed-form in your pack, they will exist forever and you can freely move them around in your house or to another house at will. That said, I have to agree with the concept of "owning one and done".

Attaching a time-stamp to the house add-ons to only allow them to be recycled (chop to re-deed) for a certain time window is an interesting idea. This would allow a player to replace the add-on should they place it improperly, or decide to move it a few minutes later, while still keeping an open market for such items in the long run as they would be lost over time.

This is only my opinion but my vote would go for the time-stamp feature, as to promote a healthy market/economy for the server in the long run.

Hell, if you guys can code that off, hell yeah, I'm all for the timestamps.
I've often bought 2-3 of an add-on....just in case I place it incorrectly.

The simple view is destroy/not. If you can make it work with timestamps on purchase or placement, you'd be winning. :)

I think all craftable house add-ons should be single use only. Perhaps the BOD aquired add-ons should be re-deedable. I've played a crafter on two other free shards and can attest that add-ons are too large a portion of the craft market. It's a way bigger negative to the crafter than a positive to the house decorator. Also, it add a bit of variety to the housing market if people are leaving add-ons in their old house when they're selling. Not a big deal but it adds to the immersive environment. A vote for redeedable house add-ons sounds a lot like "my pixels aren't free enough."

That being said, the timer isn't such a bad idea. I know it's frustrating to misplace your stone oven.
