This is what I have done with the skill so far. 0-30ish- Bought from NPC. 30ish-85ish- Shore/dock Fishing 85ish-88ish- Deep Sea fishing from a constantly moving boat. I got killed by a Sea Serpent I fished up, and don't feel like taking the 15 minute ride back to a healer right now. However, once I hit 74 on fishing the shore/dock fishing got incredibly slow. It basically took me forever to get to that 85 mark. Once I got into the sea at 85, I have gained over 3 skill points in about 8-9 hours. Basically I guess this report is stating; It works as intended. For everyone else that's just jumping into the fishing game- Keep in mind you can only gain 0.3 every 5x5 area. So gain your 0.3 and be sure to move. If you fish until there are no more fish biting in that location. I would still move out of that 5x5 area and start in a new one. Once you get a boat life gets much easier.
I have accounted for almost all of the items I have fished up on the way to 88 fishing. The Stat bonus fish- over 100 of each type. Boots, Sandals, Thigh Boots, and shoes- over 1,000 total combined. Shoes- 2 GP per @ Cobbler Sandals- 4 GP per @ Cobbler Boots- 5 GP per @ Cobbler Thigh Boots- 7 GP per @ Cobbler Fish- I have made over 10k gold total each fish gives you 4 fish steaks. 1 GP each. Don't know the exact count on this other then an estimate of 2,500-2,700.. I have so far out in the Ocean fished up 2 deep Sea Serpents carrying special items on them. The first 2 were T-Maps.
I am thinking about developing a fisher. Your report/evaluation will be extremely helpful Thanks for all the work. :}
I never got around to making my mule on uosa but I was planning on having fishing on him. If you fish up a serpent can you just steer boat away or does it stay with you and you have to fight?
To my knowledge you can steer away if you wish, it will keep up with you unless you are going straight forward though. Im pretty sure that killing them is very worthwhile as far as loot is concerned though. You could always bring an archer/healer along
You can generally get away from them. But sometimes they get stuck on the boat and just take the ride with you. In that case you'll need to move around a bit more. right or left then forward. It can be tough, but in this era, the only way to get an MiB, a special fishing net or a Treasure Map as far as fishing goes id to kill them. You don't fish up an MiB. You will fish up a sea serpent or a deep sea serpent and it will tell you what it has on it once you do. Kill it and get the goods.
