    Hello All :)

I hope this message finds you all well. I have recently joined the Renaissance server, and have been having a load of fun.

Alongside running up my 3 characters skills and stats, I have had a little time to go around and meet some lovely people :)

I am very fond of this server, but at times find myself a little confused with regard to what I should be looking to aim for as a newish player.

I was hoping to get into cartography/map hunting. I see a lot of folks are interested in fishing/maps, and was wondering if anyone has any advice for someone new?

I had never really given any of these skills much attention back when I played UO previously.

Does it make sense to have 1 fisher/cart. as well as an additional full fighting character to hunt the rewards?

Should someone new be aiming for fishing up messages in bottle, or maps? Any advice is welcome. And I look forward to reading any replies.

Just a guy trying to get a nut :)

    Thanks Tank.

First of all welcome to the best shard ever!

I think to answer your question I need to ask "What is it you're after"?

I have a fishing-carthographer which is also a nox mage (not finished but on the way). The reason I have him is 1- I can roleplay a pirate, 2- I love doing tmaps, 3- it's relatively safe way to get some good rewards.

However if you're after getting rich quickly, I suggest a provocation mage or a peace-dexxer. Provo mage will let you farm dragons in 2 days, adding to 10k every 15 mins or so.

If you want to roll with fisher-carthographer because you like the experience, by all means do that, but I'd suggest having 2 more chars that can dump energy bolts as fishing monsters are somewhat vulnerable to those.

Thank you for the quick response.

With regard to fishing on sea:

you advise to get 3 characters that have magery (competent to cast E bolt) - I assume I would have all 3 alongside 1 another. And use them at the same time whenever I fish something up. Can I ask if that was the case, should all 3 also be fishing?

With regard to the provo mage - are you suggesting just creating a provo/mage to go hunt dragons with for a method of which to make gold?

Could I ask you about Tmaps? What level Tmaps do you tend to hunt? Are you only using the 1 account? Can I ask him final planned 7x.

    Thank you for your time.

Yes, people usually have 1 fisher mage char on every account and do triple box fishing. Once there is a serpent or kraken, they stop fishing and dump e bolts.

The best way to farm gold is taming, but that's a long process. If you want good gold, but want to do it quick, I suggest a provo mage, or a peace dexxer.

I am currently doing 1-4 myself. Level 5 and 6 require more than one person (not character, unless triple boxing tamers I suppose) to do it easily. I'm doing this on another thunter though (to be deleted once my fisher cartho is up), which is a provo mage thunter. His tempalte is provo, musician, magery, detect hiding, lockpicking, carthography and meditaion.

My fisher/tmapper will be: fishing, carthography, lockpicking, detect hiding (if I gm lockpick, to be switched to eva), magery, medi, poisoning. But I won't 3 box, I will probably do it with other people or use my main char (which is a tamer dexxer) to help me with mobs.
